I was praying in a very old Catholic Church a few weeks ago. It came to me while there the realization of how many prayers had been uttered there, prayers of praise, prayers of relief from pain, prayers of request for help, etc. Then I started doing the math of how many Masses had been offered at this church through the years. I was inspired by all of it.

Then a few days later I was able to put into words what all this meant. When we are at a Catholic Church, because God is not in time, then our prayers are united with all the prayers and Sacrifices of the Mass that have been prayed in that Church. Well chills came over me when I realized the extent of our worship in a Catholic Church, WOW! My prayers are united with all of them, what joy, what peace, what a feeling of awe. God is good beyond our imaginations.

Am I totally wet? Has anyone else thought of the majesty of our being in a Church building with all that “is” at that moment?

Thoughts?

In Christ,

Stan

I don’t think you’re “totally wet.” What other command (if any) has been fulfilled as many times and in as many places over the years as “Do this in memory of Me”?

Stan,
Code:
You are correct. God is outside of time. He does not "forsee" the future, but "sees" the future like you and I see the present. Why? Because He is simultaneously IN the past, present and future, all at once. Dr. Peter Kreeft had a great talk about these things. You can listen to it here if you have speakers and/or other hearing devices on your PC:

I have never thought of all of it all together! It is beautiful and awe inspiring. On this Holy Tuesday you have given me a wonderful gift, a wonderful insight!
Thank you.

I make a point a few times a year to go to an out-of-way church that was one of the first in the pacific northwest…I think of all the people who knelt where I was, what their sufferings were, the prayers offered up…it always blows me away. 🙂

I have had the very same experience. I live in San Antonio, TX. San Fernando Cathedral and the associated Archdiocese is the oldest continually operated Catholic Archdiocese in the USA. It recently celebrated 250 years. It is not my regular parish, but I have attended many services there including funeral services for certain dignitaries. I have often been struck by the very thing which occurred to you. How many masses? Baptisms? Funerals, etc? A thread of faith and life which connects us all. As a child it occurred to me that for God there is no past; no future. Only the present. He calls himself “I Am”.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be a Kingdom without end. Amen.

Thanks for the inspiration brother.

How often I have shared this thought!! When I have had the opportunity to walk into a cathedral or kneel in a parish church in Europe where the very stone has been worn away by the generations of believers . . . the power of prayer and the reality of the Communion of Saints is so tangible.

Have a very blessed Easter.

Thanks to all of you. I appreciate your support and confirmation. God is good.

In Christ,

Stan
