Hi
Lisa,
There was a time when the women just quit wearing hats. I do not believe that the church made a statement about it, they could have, but I know they just started it on their own. No, you do not have to wear a veil.
About a Latin Liturgy, you would have to ask the priest if it is their custom.
How many religious sisters do you see wearing a veil? The Pope told them to modify their habit, but they went to extremes and now dress just like laywomen. Some wear earrings, lipstick, etc. Some live in apartments and if they are suppose to be living in community, how can you do it living alone in an apartment?
We have a Director of Relgious Ed at our parish, a Notre Dame Sister, and she dresses like the women of the parish and lives in an apartment and owns her own car. In fact, she told me, she gets a new car every year. Where does the vow of poverty come in? And I do not personally think that sets a good example for people who are struggling and can barely make it. It isn’t necessary to have a new car every year. I look it at this way: why doesn’t she just leave the community of sisters because as it is, she is not living in a community, and still continue her work as a laywoman? That is the idea of being a sister to have community living. But as you know, most sisters got out of teaching and this is why half of the Catholic schools have closed. Parents cannot afford the tuition. Please be apprised that I am not judging anyone, because I love all sisters, but just trying to stretch a point to you. God bless them!
