Am I the only one bothered by this?

I am deepy offended by the secular media hijacking the term “marriage” for homosexual unions. Am I alone in this?

How is it that Christianity seems to be standing on the sidelines on this issue?

You know how loose they are with words. Like calling abortion “womens health” and such. Marriage is a sacrament. It shouldn’t be used to describe anything but what it is: a sacramental union between man and woman. I think many don’t want to fight this battle because of cowardice. Many are just ignorant of the nature of marriage. Does seem this is the minority view these days.

They also hijacked the term “gay.”
I am sure there are many other terms that have been hijacked as well.

I hi-jacked your quote. It fits the situation. The words gay and marriage put together are a lie.

A.B. Fulton Sheen: “The truth is the truth even if nobody believes it, and a lie is still a lie, even if everybody believes it.”

Pandora’s Box was opened with the Protestant “Revolt” where now anyone and everyone may interpret God’s written Word for themselves with no outside authority to tell them what to do. (You might also want to read the book of Judges where a key verse is “No king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”) It’s called moral relativism. In such a climate practically anything goes. Reminds one of the old song “Writers too who once knew better words, now only use four letter words writing prose. Anything Goes”(Cole Porter). And yes there are hundreds or more words that have been hijacked and mean different things now than they used to.

When my diocesan newspaper reports on the issue, they use the term “gay marriage”.

I wish they would use “homosexual union”.

Toying with e-mailing the paper to ask why they use the term.

Thanks Lego for the Judges reference. Didn’t know that.
Start reading especially at Judges chapter 17 to the end. Begins with a man named Micah who builds his own" worship center" and hires a Levite to be his personal priest. And the whole thing goes downhill from there.

Finished reading Judges.
Seems like, today, a lot of people out there “have no king”!

A life of “no rules” suits a lot of people, well, at least so they think.

In the years to come, the first “marriage” between two men, a women and a shovel should get tremendous media coverage.

I don’t understand what you are saying here.
The word “marriage” isn’t only a religious word and it isn’t defined by one religion. It also means a union of many different varieties.

As far as marriage between two people go…according to the dictionary and encyclopedia, the word “marriage” first appeared in 1250–1300 AD/CE, deriving from middle English.
Since approx 1400, the word has been applied to mean any close union or blending of any two things.
And the institution of marriage pre-dates recorded history.

So neither the *act *of getting married nor the word “marriage” finds their origin only in the Judeo-Christian religion, or any other religion for that matter.

So no one is “hijacking” the term from anyone.

Well, actually…wait.
Merriam Webster defines marriage as:

(1) : the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law
(2) : the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage <same-sex marriage>

So I guess you could say that if we define it only as between male-female, then we’d be hijacking the term from Merriam-Webster…
What is the copyright date of this dictionary? Webster’s Dictionary takes words that become common-place in society and adds them to their collection of words and meanings. Years ago a Webster Dictionary would not have had the second definition of “marriage.”

Changing the name of some item does not change what it authentically is. Calling a faux union a marriage is simply a type of lie.

WHO IN TURN HI-JACKED it from God’s Bible. Amen

I don’t think many people care that you’re offended. I mean, marriage isn’t exclusive to you guys, and it means different things to different people. It’s not like atheists get married and believe they’re entering into some kind of natural, holy, Godly institution. No, they’ll just get the best goat out of the closet and get on with a bit more sodomy, only this time it’s not pre-marital.

Eh, if you catch my drift.

Marriage should be exclusive to men and women even athiest.

I believe in God but when I look in the mirror I get depressed.
