So my goal is not to fear-monger or be presumptuous. I have been trying to to figure out the truth about Halloween for a while now. If you’re wondering why I should not be sure after all the Catholic internet people explaining why it’s actually okay, it’s because every time I research it, all I learn is that there are a vast amount of “historical” sources out there about this holiday that completely contradict each other.
I have no personal opinion on the matter, I would just really like to know the truth.
I talked with a former satanist and also read something from another (both now Catholic,) and they advised strongly against Halloween. However, the first one had less experience of it himself and told me what he read from sources from satanic books, which he says could either be full of lies, being from satanists, or very horribly true.
Of course my evangelical friend is super against it. However I am looking for the Catholic truth.
I have a healthy respect for the danger of the occult, having directly seen some of the negative consequences that might be easy to otherwise dismiss.
I also do not believe in living under superstition and paranoia.
It’s getting ridiculous though. One former satanist will say it’s a time of blood sacrifice and that the “treats” were about demanding things from people or else cursing them. Then a catholic says that the treats were actually about almsgiving. Then someone else says that it’s actually Pagan or Wiccan or whatever. One person has “proof” that we still are being occult by celebrating it and someone else says they know we are standing up to death and the holiday is actually historically Catholic.
I am kinda getting confused here. All I’m seeing is people either getting mad at people who want to know the truth and scoffing at their fear, or else an extreme fear of and refusal to touch anything to do with Halloween.
But I just want to know what is actually historically and spiritually correct!
If anyone has some reliable sources or experience, especially that address all these contradictions, I would most appreciate it.
