Am I the only one who prays with the words of Holy Mother Church?

I’m just wondering if there are others who adapt the words of Holy Mother Church in their prayers as the prayers in the Catholic tradition express such sublime thoughts. I can’t help thinking “Lex orendi lex credendi, lex vivendi”. This is not to disparage anyone who feels moved to pray in a different way; this is just to know more about how people pray in the context of Church tradition and to get other’s (name removed by moderator)ut on how to enrich my prayer life.

I’m not sure, by the way, if it has been noticed that my prayers sound very much like the prayers used in liturgies. Rest assured I am not attempting to be a priest or to do things only certain religious can do; it is merely an attempt to be one with the Church on every way.

I usually pray the LOTH - as written in the Breviary.

So, I’m a little vague here; are you asking if people alter the words of the text of such historical prayers or are you inquiring about Extemporaneous Prayer?

Well, to be accurate, the entire Church prays with the words of Holy Mother Church in every Mass and through the Liturgy of the Hours. But if I understand you correctly, you are asking if others use words and phrases from the liturgy in their private prayers?

No, I doubt you are the only one. I use words from Scripture and the liturgy all the time. The great thing about being Catholic is that these words can really seep into you over the years. It is very helpful when I am at a loss for words in prayer (which is most of the time ).

Certainly I use the LOTH sometimes, though most of the time (because of my busy schedule), I pick parts of the prayers to pray.

I guess what I am asking is if aside from the LOTH, are there others who do extemporaneous prayers with wordings that are quite similar to the liturgies (and if at times, they alter the text of historical prayers)?
