I dont know whats wrong with me. I really dont.

For some unexplicable reason I seem to be the only male in Wisconsin who doesnt want to spend his life chasing women and sleeping around. Instead, all I want is to get married, settle down, buy a house with a white picket fence and the whole nine yards.

I get the most ridiculus looks from other guys. Today’s my 20th birthday and if I hear “so is your gf giving you your ‘birthday present’ tonight?”, I’m going to bludgeon someone. Well, maybe not, but I like using the word “bludgeon”.

Hi Argh,
N :nope: , you are not the only one. I know a who group of young men and women who think the way you do. thay are called CFC-Youth and CFC-Singles for Christ (links in my signature block). I applaude:clapping: you for standing up for your beliefs. If you would like to meet the CFC-Youth or CFC-Singles, please let me know.

Again YOU ARE NOT ALONE :tiphat: and HAPPY BIRTHDAY :dancing: .

Dude, Happy Birthday and congradulations on your convictions. I bet you make your mother proud, I just pray my son will have the same internal fortitude to stand up to his peers when he reaches your age.

But in the end, 2, 3, 5, or even 10 years down the road, when you are married to the wife you’re looking for and you are sitting on the front porch of your house watching your children play, as you look back over your life God willing you will have no regrets. That’s what I keep trying to drill into my teenagers heads now, don’t live for today don’t live just for this moment, set your eyes on the things that really matter. SO hang in there man, and may God bring you some friends who think and feel like you do and when it is time, may you meet your lady friend.

First let me say happy birthday, now for your friends…it is a macho thing. They think this is what every guy wants to hear. I think you are probably a bit more mature than your friends at the moment. Don’t worry, they will change in a few years when they get sick of being alone. Women like men that want to have the whole dream not just the sex. Don’t worry, you are young and you have plenty of time to find the one woman that God intended for just you. Most men aren’t even close to mature enough for marriage until they are at least 28-30. So I wouldn’t stress about it, don’t be offended either, they are on;y speaking from their experience of what the average 20 yo wants. Not all men are like that Thank God!!!

:tiphat: Wow! If you really were to"bludgeon" someone…think they might get the point…Ha!

My hat’s off to you…I hope and pray that my sweet little sons…three so far…are JUST LIKE YOU! :tiphat:

Your GF is lucky!

No, you aren’t and good for you. You’re the kind of young man I’d love my daughter to bring home 🙂 Hang in there. It will be worth it.

Argh: Happy Birthday. There is nothing wrong with you! It is so nice to see a young man with morals and not giving in to peer pressure. I have a 17 year old son and I’m hoping that once the hormones calm down he will be the same! He’s a sweetie but a little girl crazy. lol.

It’s so nice to hear what you had to say. My husband is also a good man who is not interested in ogling women, sleeping around (before or after our marriage) or any of the things so many do. At first I almost didn’t know what to make of him but I’m sooooo glad to have him. Likewise there will be a woman out there who will really value you for your morals. It’s so good to see when it seems to be so rare.

In my high school and college years, I was in the exact same boat you are. Believe me, you are in a huge minority. And I’ve found that the gap hasn’t closed much at all over the years. Maturity, unfortunately, does not seem to have an inherent relationship with age. You will most likely keep being persecuted for your convictions until you find a group of friends who can support you. Even if you don’t drop the buddies, it is probably best that you get in a group of guys who share your values. Unfortunately, it is all-too-common that you have to shop around even in the Catholic church to find that. The good news is that there are more and more youth standing up for Truth every single day–just like you!

Nah, you’re not the only one, i’m 27 and getting married in 3 weeks. But i have been this way since i was 17 years old. Not wanting fleeting relationships, just one true woman and marriage.

Just tell your acquaintances or friends, “no, I am more of a man than that, I actually respect women.” or whatever else…

God Bless

Well, I just had to “bludgeon” one of my coworkers who came by to pick-up her paycheck (my mother does payroll for my uncles landscaping business). She jokingly asked if my gf had given me her present yet (apparently the guys at work called her and told her to say this). But I found a snappy comeback! I just showed her the back of my left hand and said “I’m just one ring short”.

Thanks all. But can you do me all a favor next week wednsday and come to 368 Juniper Road in Grafton, WI. so you can kidnap my lutheran/agnostic gf and take her to the nearest Secret Underground Roman Catholic Brainwashing and Programming Center for me?

Thanks again.

Congrats!!! Awesome answer! I bet it made her think twice about joking with you like that! Hahaha…My fiance (7 days till wedding) was a Lutheran but converted a couple of yrs ago. but now my son wants to convert his Episcopal gf so if you find the secret location of the brainwashing/truth programming center let me know. Although I think the fact that she is going to a Catholic University is probably going to do the trick…hehehehe

Only if you can take my husband there too:D

Last year I received a validation (hubby did too) that we weren’t so crazy to want to settle down young and do the whole kids, marriage, thing.

He had a 20 yr reunion camp out with some old high school boy scout friends. Some of his oldest, best of friends came. And before they left town we went to lunch together.

Hubby and I have three teen kids, he has a PhD and is a professor. We don’t own our own home, but rent a small “farmette” and raise livestock etc.

We got to talking about things, and how, when at 19 he married me, they all thought he was throwing his life away, or at least the best years of his life. But 20 yrs later…they have no home, no partner, no kids, no savings account and no careers! They’ve putzed around (I am talking smart guys here) and yes, they have taken some cool camping trips that my hubby missed out on, but they have no more than we do financially, and less in so many other ways. It was a real “wow” moment for all of us. Another friend, who had left a day earlier, had also married and had kids. And he too had, well, a fuller life than them, by their own admittance.

So…my hubby doesn’t sigh and think, maybe I shoulda waited…anymore. Because he sees that having me and the kids gave him a reason and purpose. He worked harder because he wasn’t working only for himself. He did MORE because of us, not less.

I used to feel a little guilty, that I had kept my hubby from experiencing more of life, but now I know that I haven’t. Because of our union, we are both more than we could have been apart.

I just thought I’d toss that story your way. You are not alone, nor are you crazy.

Not to change the subject at all but show her this…

plannedparenthood.org/pp2/portal/files/portal/webzine/newspoliticsactivism/fean-050406-gene-robinson.xml

Planned Parenthood article in their “Choice” magazine about Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson.

Makes me want to convert! As you can see…I joined this forum not long after this article was written.

Argh, you are so NOT the only one. Lots of us guys feel exactly the same way you do. It’s just that we prefer hanging out in different places than most guys–church, the park, friends’ houses, Minnesota–not bars and clubs and public university housing units and Wisconsin. 😃

At a public university, you’re going to meet all kinds of people who come from all kinds of backgrounds–many of which are not of the religious type. In a way, you almost can’t fault them for acting this way. They have had no moral guidance–their only guidance has been that of secular society, which they blindly adhere to and follow. And why not follow it? They’ve never known any other way. So, don’t take it too personally when people say such degrading remarks. Let them know your opinion, oh yes! But don’t fret too badly about it. Make them realize how much happier you are because of your dreams.

I like reading your posts, by the way. Take a road trip to the Twin Cities some time and I’ll hook you up with house full o’ men who think like you do.

Actually, you might be! The only catholic one, anyways.

Fellow Badger here! Graduated in 1993. At that time St. Paul’s on State was a hotbed or horrific liturgical abuse. I’m no knee jerk, Vatican II basher, but what I saw go on there shook me. Leavend bread, every person gave comunion to the person behind him in line, a woman concelebrated and gave homilies, “Our Father Our Mother God who art in heaven…”, active Dignity chapter, etc. Basically the parish community was darn near like the editorial staff of the Cardinal (are they still a leftist, school funded rag?)

For mass, I bailed out and went to St. James a ways off campus.

For fellowship, at the time, I punted and hung out with evangelicals. Dangerous. I was one of only 2 catholic survivors out of about 10 that drifted into that group. (I dated the other one!) Not recommended. Sniff around, I’ve heard there’s something catholic going on in town, but I can’t seem to remember any details.

Happy birthday and in the worlds of JPII “coragio”! I want to thank you for saying “yes” to God’s call that we all seek holiness. You are an example to those around you and I’m sure that the fruits of your actions reach much farther than your view!
