Many years ago when I was about 35/40 I went to confession and spoke to the priest about my sins. He was very annoyed with me, refused me absolution and I left. He didn’t refuse me because I wasn’t sorry or I wasn’t prepared to try to change my ways.

I stayed away from the church for many years but eventually come back and have never experienced such an occurance again.

I now go to Mass ( and communion) each Sunday and sometimes during the week.

The question is : Am I wasting my time? Have I been refused absolution for ever by this priest? I am now approaching 69 years of age and wonder about this often.

Hi,

Certainly you are not wasting your time going to Confession these days. It is unfortunate that you stayed away when you had done nothing wrong. The problem was with the priest–not you. Pray for the him and anyone else he has injured.
