My cousin and I have been life long friends. I am 49 and he is 46. We both were raised in the Catholic faith. He recently converted to a New Age Church, and is getting married in that church. I and my family were invited to the wedding. However, words were exchanged between him and me regarding his recent conversion. He openly told me that Jesus is NOT the Son of God, that there is NO Purgatory, and there is NO Hell. These statements along with others led me to tell him that my family and I will NOT be attending his wedding. To do so would be an affirmation of his misguided beliefs. This is causing a stir within our extended family. Other family members who are Catholic are going to the wedding to keep peace in the family.
What is the Catholic Church’s view on this New Age Religion? And was I wrong for turning down the invitation to the wedding? How can I profess my beliefs about the Catholic faith without turning my cousin away from me?
