The reality is that Protestants can spend a lifetime being critical of beliefs found in other Protestant denominations but they are not. The arguments from Protestant, non-Catholic Christians seem to be primarily focused on Catholicism. I have never seen, for example, a thread here started by a Protestant, non-Catholic Christian, addressing Protestant, non-Catholic, “Christian religious leaders” like, Jim Jones, David Koresh or Marshall Applegate. Now, why is that? Is it because these are examples of “personal interpretation of the bible” gone wrong?

I think so.

Am I wrong?

these people aren’t going to waste their time talking about some small, crazy cult. they are all trying to chip away at Catholicism because they fear it.

Bear in mind this IS a Catholic forum, so people come here because they’ve got questions or positive or negative comments to make about Catholicism.

I’m sure if you were interested in attacking, say, Hinduism, you’d either stay here or go to a Hindu forum to do so, wouldn’t you? Rather than, say, popping up with your anti-Hindu diatribe on a Mormon forum, since neither you nor the faith you are attacking have much to do with Mormonism?

I must agree with Hisalone on more than one account.

First, we don’t spend much time at all being against anyone. BTW, Catholics are quite against Protestants.

Second, Mr Jones and Mr Koresh were not, most likely, Christian at all. Mr Jones at least was very wicked. I don’t know about the third one you mentioned. If Mr Koresh made himself to be God as Mr Jones did, then he too was wicked.

What is there to free from Catholicism, another inquisition?

BTW, before you get mad a me, I’m just illustrating the absurdity of this quote.

I spent decades in most corners of the Protestant world as a Church Elder, Bible teacher, prison ministry coordinator and leader of men’s ministry. Now I’m Catholic. Trust me on this one. Evangelical Protestants tend to be preoccupied with Catholicism and slam it at every opportunity whereas Catholics are actually fairly ambivalent about Protestants. If you ask the average Catholic what they think of Protestants the likely response will be “I don’t think about Protestants”.

Yes I agree. John Calvin killed unwed young girls along with their unborn babies by drowning for the “sin” of being pregnant. (Reference available on request.) Should we keep unwed mothers away from Calvinists?

*Dear a priori,
I do appreciate your comments. A a Catholic, I do not like to talk about other Non-Catholic Christian Denominations
because I feel they, too, are Children of God … and God would not appreciate this!
I also have to say there are some Non-Catholic Christians that have told me that I will go to Hell,
because I am Catholic. Another said they would not set foot in a Catholic Church!
I will not judge them, only God can do that … but do I understand the hatred? No.
God Bless,

I think the reason the Protestants don’t criticize other Protestant denominations is because there are so many out there. They are intertwined with each other’s doctrines, so they risk contradiciting themselves. I am a Cradle Catholic and I left the Catholic Church 29 years ago; I recently returned. I came running back. I have been in many Protestant Churches. I have heard Catholics Called Cults, that we are going to hell, that we worship statues, etc. The thing that guided me back was the inconsistency of the fragemented doctrines that each have. Once I grew in the Lord and read the scripture, the scripture illuminated to me their (Protestant faith’s) lack of authority. I have never been at peace in all my adult years until I returned to the Catholic Church. Oh Thank you Lord!:signofcross:

No I dont trust you on this. I know there may be some preoccupied with Catholicism but I dont know them. the only time Catholics are brought up is when they are doing the work of Christ.

This really bugs me. Non-Catholic Christians tend to claim that anyone who goes bad was not a real Christian. Hogwash. If someone follows Jesus, he is Christian.

It’s funny that they don’t claim that the Catholics who go bad aren’t really Catholic. Nope. Going bad is a sign that they actually are Catholic. It’s brought up as proof that the Catholic Church is (all together now) eeeeevil. 🙂

Do you know Christians/Catholics by their ‘fruit’ or by their teaching or both? Those men falsely drew people to themselves and taught false things. Mr Jones claimed to be god. If you want to think they are Christian/Catholic, be my guest. They weren’t following Jesus. Jesus is not followed by what we claim but by what we do.

Your claim that people don’t say, ‘that person can’t be a Catholic,’ must be because it’s more important to be Catholic than Christian.

Who brings up about the CC being evil?

I can only speak for myself: I don’t speak against, nor hate, the Catholic Church. When involved in a discussion about teachings of the CC, I’ll stand on the side of what I believe the Bible says.

I’ve been an evangelical for 35+ yrs, I’m ordained, I’ve lead many Bible studies and while every once in a while I’ve come across negativity toward what the CC teaches (and at times by extension- against the CC itself) I can’t remember ever personally being against the CC, I’ve only been against some of its teachings. Those who are most negative against the CC are those who became Christians post their CC experience. They say they feel lied to and some have suggested they were ‘brain washed’.

We all will have to give account for what we teach and for what we say about others. If you’re honest, just look at this board, there’s real negative feeling against some protestants. I’ve experienced inaccurate claims that I am anti-catholic and angry.

What does it mean to follow Jesus? From your post you seem to think Jim Jones and Koresh were Christian. Have you no discernment or common sense?
