When I go to Mass with my family we normally use hand sanitizer before we recive Holy Communion by hand. (I recieve by tongue when on my own) Sometimes I think the hand sanitizer leave residue on my hand. When I recieve Holy Communion today I noticed crumbs on my hand. Not sure if it was crumbs or the residue I consumed it. But even after that, I saw what might white crumbs and a little white sticky stuff on my palm and thumb. I thought it was probably hand sanitizer so did not consume it. But now am really really really worried it was crumbs from the Host!!! I would never intentionally desecrate tha Host! Am anxious over what I might have done! Did I commit a grievous sin?! I love Jesus! I would never intentionally desecrate Him!

Or am I being scrupulous! I know I can be scrupulous sometimes…

To me that sounds like scrupulosity. At any rate if you didn’t intentionally desecrate the host, I don’t think you did anything wrong.

Think about it like this. On the molecular level, pieces of the host can break off and fall away without our seeing. Is that desecration?

We give money to the collection during offertory. Its a habit my family developed the past few years.

Would be really grateful to know whether I sinned or not please!!!

Peace and all Good!!

To me it sounds like you have no need to worry, it sounds like Scrupulosity rearing its ugly Head.

I don’t know how you would feel about Receiving the Blessed Sacrament on the tongue in the future when with your family but it may help to avoid recurring Scrupulosity.

I’m not saying you have to, or you should feel required to only receive on the tongue, just a thought from someone who’s prone to similar Scrupulosity when it comes to things like this.

:blessyou:

No sin was committed.

As others have said, you are being scrupulous. If this is something that you experience often, I would recommend talking to a priest about it and receiving guidance.

I have had similar scruples but, always receiving on the tongue has helped me because there is almost no way my hands could come into direct contact with our Lords Precious Body. If you do not have a spiritual director I highly recommend you find a holy and likable priest to spiritually direct you.

May God Bless You

We also use hand sanitizer after the peace offering and before communion. I sit in the front row and I’ve never had issues with it not being dry in time.

That’s great that u do. I’m almost certain I remember reading, that in the past, there was much more care taken for those who received in the hand, that people had to keep their hands clean and couldn’t touch anything until they received our Lord. It might have been in that Dominus Est book, by Bishop Athanasius Schneider.

Speak with your priest. But yes, crumbs are a problem and a reality; I remember watching a video of someone demonstrating this problem, and it’s a very real one. Every little crumb is the body, blood, soul & divinity of our Lord, and so, if communion in the hand is used, it needs to be done with the utmost care. Personally, I’m glad u seem to love our Lord very much and are concerned enough to even ask this question.

God bless! 🙂

Thank you so much everyone for all your replies and reassurances! I am so grateful that it was probably should scruples. I went to confession yesterday though just to be sure.

I recently changed spiritual directors and so I haven’t been able to tell my new SD yet about my scrupolosity. Will do that in our next meeting.

Thank you again! I was really worried!

Nothing wrong with trying to be perfect, either. Just sayin…
I certainly agree with this. We are all called to strive after perfection ant to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect. I was just trying to help the OP avoid excessive worry & possible feelings of despair or other overly negative side effects of scrupulosity 🙂 🙂
