Last nite, I call my priest with an urgent prayer request. I dont need to tell you the details, but what followed after we hung up was amazing. My bedroom was filled with the aroma of fresh flowers…I think they were lilies. It hung around for about 5 minutes then went. It left me with feeling great peace and that all was ok.

Anyone else have experiences where you smelled something and it was comforting…after praying?

PS its good to be back on the forums…been away for a long time…for no good reason really.

Blessings to all

Not personally, but I’ve definitely heard of it happening. Congratulations on having such a special experience. 🙂

Yes. I went to a concert and was motivated by the Holy Spirit to offer up my suffering in union with Jesus’ suffering on the cross for everyone at the concert including myself and the performer. Towards the end of the night I smelled the same smell. I know it wasn’t caused by anything in the concert because there was no smoking or any kind of incense or anything. It was really special.

wow, that is awesome 🙂

one time my mom and I were driving back from Christmas vigil Mass, and we were sad that there was no Christmas music on the radio, only regular secular music (and it was Christmas eve). Then we came across “O Holy Night” and all of a sudden the car was filled with the smell of incense, though it did not smell like incense before, and our windows were closed, and we were already far from the church. (and during Mass, we sat in one of the last rows and the incense didn’t really reach us). It was very neat. 🙂 it was like a sign that Christ also wanted everyone to know that it is Christmas and to celebrate His birth.

God bless 🙂

Thank you for sharing this faith experience with us!
And welcome back.

:blessyou:

no, but has anyone ever felt like a warm feeling like someone is hugging you when praying to Mary when sad?

Some amazing experiences there. 🙂

Something similar happened to me a little while ago. I was at an ecumenical worship service. At one point when we were singing, I could smell incense in the air. The church we were visiting is not the sort of place where they ever burn incense, and it wasn’t someone’s perfume or anything because it was at least half an hour into the service, and if it had been, I’d have smelt it before then. It was really special.

What a wonderful memory for you and your mother to treasure and to share with each other forever!

Yes. Smell of roses on my bedspread at night while praying just before going to sleep, kneeling by my bed and then again when I laid my head on my pillow. Wasn’t there later when I checked. No one has been in my room who would have had perfume on or anything else rose scented.

Was feeling at the end of my rope, feeling unheard and ignored in prayer. Felt reassured that my prayers were being heard, even if not answered in the way I would have desired.

What wonderful and powerful experiences these are.

I haven’t had a scent when praying but I have felt hugging. I came back from recvng communion and while I was kneeling there praying I could feel someone hugging me.
Then I had the image of Jesus hugging me and I put my head on His shoulder and sobbed.
I was kneeling between my husband and his sister and they were praying silently. No one was touching me.
My husband had been recovering from an injury and had just taken a major step backward. I was feeling like we were back at square one and felt weak, scared and sad.
I felt like He was just there to hold me and let me cry it out.

Such awesome examples. I had an experience during Mass when I smelled incense. Unfortunately my Parish does not burn incense often 😦 It was so awesome, there is something so reverent about incense. In Mass praying and had this wonderful aroma come to me. I was so excited I asked my wife after Mass who burned the incense, to this day she thinks I was kidding. Because she did not smell it. So awesome.

I had been praying for a dear school friend who died before she was 40 due to a rather sinful lifestyle. I prayed for her every day, had Masses said, did novenas, etc, for over five years. Then one day I was praying for her in my room and I suddenly smelled her favorite perfume, a fragrance that I do not wear. I think it was God’s sign to me that she was finally in His arms.

No scents, but it has happened a few times during deep prayer that I felt something warm around the crown of my head, almost but not quite touching my hair. Almost like a blessing.

Such beautiful consolations! My daughter asked me once at Mass if I smelled roses and I did not. She was 15.

Thank you for sharing this! Wonderful reminder and encouragement to pray for the departed. I’ve been struggling with the temptation to think that it isn’t going to do anything or be worthwhile sometimes. 😦

I’ve had many amazing experiences with prayer. Especially since getting involved very much with Christianity.
