Ok, Marsha let’s take this slowly so we both understand each other. Here is the second commandment again.
4 Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth. 5 Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me:
Now is not the host a graven thing, made by the hand of man. Is not Jesus in heaven. If you can answer in the affirmative to these questions. Then you must by all the rules of logic and common sense see that the Catholic mass is in violation of the second commandment. I know that this is hard to accept but if you study this carefully and in depth I don’t beleive you can come to any other conclusion
In Christ Richard
Actually it is not very hard to accept at all for a Catholic. If one can grasp the difference between the Natural and the Spirit. For one the Mass does not violate any of the 10 commandments. If anything the Mass fulfills them in their entirety. For everything the Word of God written on stone (10 commandments) commands of man not to do in order not to violate the covenant with God, so as to duplicate the worship with heaven to God, the Mass graduates the man from the Natural Law of God, to Particpate In the Heavenly worship with angels and saints on earth in the Word of God made flesh, in the Spirit of the Law that supersedes the Natural Law. For the Natural Law demands a death, whereas the Spirit of the Law gives Life eternal. I know this may require deep reflection and or explanation, but one cannot exhaust the mysteries of the God in the Mass or his Eucharist.
What needs to be clarified here, is the difference between what is of the Natural dies, and what is of the Spirit is eternal.
To raise ones faith into the mysteries of God, this takes an act of God. And God acts through his Sacraments. So What is presumed to be made by the hand of man is not correct by any standards according to the Word of God. It is by the Word of God himself that the bread and wine “is the body and blood of Jesus Christ”. The host is not a graven image period. When God told Moses to speak to the Rock, for it to give water to his people in the desert, Did Moses worship the Rock? When God told Moses to put a bronzed serpent on a pole for all who look at it may be healed. Did Moses worship the serpent?
What God calls holy is holy, What God makes holy, is holy. So your claim to call the Host an idol, goes against the Word of God himself, who commands the bread and wine to be his body and blood, so that you and I may have eternal Life, but we have to have faith to eat his body and drink his blood, according to the commandments of the Word of God made flesh, Jesus himself.
So the Church does not make anything with her hands, she is just the instrument by which God communicates his new covenant for all humanity, in order to rest (have communion) in God. Catholics dont believe in a symbolic Jesus in the bread and wine, this is a form of idolatry, The Eucharist is Jesus made present body, blood, soul and divinity. The Mass is the liturgy of the Word of God, and the Liturgy of the Lamb of God Uniting the one body of Jesus Christ both in heaven and on earth, when God is all and in all. The Mass is where the communion of saints in heaven and on earth participate (not duplicate ) along with the heavenly choirs of angels who never stop exclaiming Holy,Holy,Holy Lord…It is here where God makes the eternal present for his body (the Catholic church) on earth, through his Glorious Son Jesus Christ our savior. You can get a glimpse of the liturgies in heaven through the book of Revelation, and then visit a Mass and see the book of Revelation come to life.
So I have to respectfully disagree with you, if you take a natural view of the Word of God, yes I can see how it may appear to one in the natural contrary to the Law, But God cannot deceive nor be decieved. What I speak to you are of the Spirit which is eternal, describing spiritual realities. No one cannot repeat that which is eternal. This is the confusion of the sacrifice of the Mass. It is not repeated, the eternal sacrifice is made present for all ages to be given eternal life who will not walk away from Jesus the bread of life. So the Host (Jesus present) is not idol worship, because for one, it is not made by human hands, it is made by the Word of God, secondly, The Eucharist (body of Jesus Christ) is not a likeness of Jesus in heaven, the Eucharist is Jesus present body, blood, soul and divinity, lifted up for all to see, for Scripture states, "when you see the son of man lifted up, then you will know that “I AM” . This lifting up of Jesus is fulfilled in every Mass. Amen
The Hebrew scriptures will confirm what I just said,
Hebrew 11:1
Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen. 2 Because of it the ancients were well attested. 3** By faith we understand that the universe was ordered by the word of God, 3 so that what is visible came into being through the invisible…6 But without faith it is impossible to please him, for anyone who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
**
Hebrew 9:23 Therefore, it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified by these rites, but the heavenly things themselves by better sacrifices than these. 24 **For Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands, a copy of the true one, but heaven itself, that he might now appear before God on our behalf. **25 Not that he might offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters each year into the sanctuary with blood that is not his own; 26 if that were so, he would have had to suffer repeatedly from the foundation of the world. **But now once for all he has appeared at the end of the ages 19 to take away sin by his sacrifice. 27 **Just as it is appointed that human beings die once, and after this the judgment,
28
so also Christ, offered once to take away the sins of many, 20 will appear a second time, not to take away sin but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him.
Hebrews 10:19 **Therefore, brothers, since through the blood of Jesus we have confidence of entrance into the sanctuary
20 by the new and living way he opened for us through the veil, that is, his flesh, **21 and since we have “a great priest over the house of God,” 22 **let us approach with a sincere heart and in absolute trust, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water. 23 Let us hold unwaveringly to our confession that gives us hope, for he who made the promise is trustworthy. **
Hebrew 12;22
No, you have approached Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and countless angels in festal gathering, 23 and the assembly of the firstborn enrolled in heaven, 6 and God the judge of all, and the spirits of the just made perfect, 24 and Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and the sprinkled blood that speaks more eloquently 7 than that of Abel. 25 **See that you do not reject the one who speaks. For if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much more in our case if we turn away from the one who warns from heaven. **
2Corinthians 5:7
for we walk by faith, not by sight.
Peace.
