This is a link to my old blog and some work I posted written by someone I know…

He staggered the lines, so I tried to publish them as written (I played a bit with the color, though; one was posted twice cuz he didn’t care for the more colorful version…lol)…

If you highlight the verses, you will see the periods I used to indent them:

I sometimes wonder why Fatima, Lourdes, and Guadalupe aren’t taught in school…

At least as far as I know they’re not.

In Luke 1, Mary says that generations would call her blessed…

In Matthew 28, Jesus commanded His disciples to preach His teachings to all nations. Because of this, among other things, for the most part all nations ARE familiar with who Mary is.

God has never hesitated to use His trusted servants to deliver His messages to man. In Luke 1, we also read that Gabriel delivered God’s messages to Zechariah and Mary. God could obviously have delivered these messages Himself, but did do otherwise.

So then, in this day and age when most nations do know who Mary is, these wonderful messages from God that He has allowed her to deliver, SHOULD be headline news that are also taught in the schools.

Like…INSTEAD of the availability of birth control and abortion - which unbeknown to many promotes an agenda that has a DIFFERENT "desti"nation in mind.

I don’t know why they are not taught in the grade schools, or if they are not, but I know that they did not come up in my classes at the high school level because they had little to do with Morality or Ecclesiology or Church History (except as an event that happened in the 20th Century) or Sacraments which were the classes I taught. In my 20 weeks of CCD 8th grade classes, the closest we come to discussing them is when we pray the decade of the Rosary every week and end with the Fatima prayer, and we might talk about them, if we have time, when we go over Marian Dogma. We just do not have time! Too much to cover, too little time.

Yes, God used his trusted servants to deliver message and whom could He trust more than Mary? But even Mary would agree that the message is always more important than the messenger. The problem arises when people do not believe the messenger.

Interesting…

I was referring to (but didn’t specify) these events being taught in public schools. In CCD we did not study these events, either, but basically our Lord’s life, the Sacraments, and then when we were older, how to live and apply Christ’s teachings in our communities.

We didn’t go over apologetics, either. Which definitely would have come in handy. However, through technology God has provided us with the opportunity to learn our Faith from those who have been formally trained, which is a definite blessing.

Revelation 19:10 and 22:9 say exactly that…that we are not to worship the messenger.

Imo, it is good if people are skeptical of miraculous messages, and that the Church investigates them. However, once they’re checked out and determined to be from God, man should heed them. But, they aren’t even discussed in schools, so…

As a fellow Catholic, I agree with you. However, as someone who works in the public school I can tell you that the majority of people would either not accept the story of Fatima or down right reject it as being fanciful, on par with say The Odyssey by Homer. In a class on religious studies such as Comparative Religions, it might be discussed. But how many public high schools offer such classes?
I see it as the duty and responsibility of parishes to make these events known to the members through adult studies and, time permitting, CCD classes. Even a homily every once in a while would help.

Your knowledge is limited because of the limited time. I have roughly 30 hours with my students over the course of a school year, not counting Masses, confession, and other non-catechetical events. That is simply too little time to cover it all and Marian apparitions get dropped in deference to such loaded topics as The Trinity, The Bible, Morality, Marian Dogmas, Christology, Sacraments, prayer, Redemption, Salvation, The Four Last Things, and Social Justice. It is not that they are not important as that they are not as important as …

Adult studies would be awesome, imo…

And yes, the homilies are also very helpful, instruction-wise.

And now, Pope Francis has canonized 35 more Saints, most of them martyrs. How humbling it is to watch these on EWTN. God is so good.
