Today’s Gospel reading reminded me of a conversation I once had with a priest…

I had mentioned that the part where the angels told the three wise men not to return to Herod showed me that it IS okay to deliberately avoid…difficult people. The priest said that Herod had evil intentions, and the conversation did not extend much past that.

So then, I thought about those (thankfully few) difficult people I do deliberately try to avoid, and why.

Some do seem to go out of their way to - without going into details - bother others. I don’t understand it, because it does almost seem like a chronic and deliberate habit on their part. Whatever it is, I don’t feel the need to contribute to it and waste my time, figuring that if I stop it gives them the opportunity to sin, which I know from prior experiences will happen.

It’s sad, imo, because mostly they’re people who had initially seemed likable, but over time have learned otherwise. Of course I do offer prayers for these people that I do not like because our Lord commands it - and I’m glad He commands it because otherwise, I for one probably wouldn’t even think to do so.
