That’s what the Amazon forum discussions were originally for. For customers to question and discuss Amazon’s products. Back then, there was one forum: the Gold Box forum. Those discussions were fun.

Then for awhile, Amazon let people create their own forums as the discussions veered away from products and went into everything else. But that got out of control and they reined everyone in by creating official forums for the most popular topics of discussion.

Those were the days of one user name per Amazon shopper. I remember when another poster stole my ID (I was Lovely Lily) and I had to get permission to add the word “REAL” to my ID. The other person was later banned. And I got my old name back.

After the first year or so, more people were posting in the other forums and the GBF became more like CAF’s “Casual Discussion” forum. A year or so before Amazon closed all the forums, the Gold Box Forum was laid to rest.

By that time, many posters had numerous IDs (one poster who bragged about having a “special phone number” said they’d told her each poster could have 50 IDs) and there was more battle than discussion. Many posters left as the website’s technical problems became more evident.

Quite frankly, we are blessed that CAF takes such swift action when issues are brought to their attention.

And it is sooo nice to see the readings here without derogatory remarks from “the Posse,” as we called the worst of the anti-Catholic posters, about Catholics not being Christians.
 
Remember when we used to kid about who was taking the next shift in babysitting them? You did a marvelous job finding just the right product to match their tantrums.🤣
 
The person who started the original thread quite a few years ago on Amazon’s Christianity forum, was a former Protestant who became (like many who posted there) a wonderful Catholic apologist.

Thankfully, some of the awesome apologists who posted there did find this thread and were members here already. It doesn’t appear that anyone who did not agree with us has found this thread/forum yet - but just for the record while I DON’T miss the arguing I do miss the people, as we posted pretty much daily for many years.

Well, sharing products was what the forums were designed for, so…

And yes - it did seem like babysitting sometimes. I still cannot believe that such mistaken notions & its resulting nastiness exist today, due to misinformation passed down for a few hundred years.

Are you referring to Kevin? He wasn’t the originator of the threads. They derived from another poster’s thread. But I think Kevin did change the title further down the line to the title we know it as today. I’ll look through my notes. I still have them there.

I forgot to mention that this particular thread also includes content from another thread at Amazon that was also started by another wonderful Catholic apologist who posts here - Teresa63.

Hers was the Lectio Divina thread, where we discussed the Sunday readings for many years - which included the helpful suggested reflections that are listed after the daily readings posted here. The people who participated were Catholics & Protestants but we all got along. Although like every other thread there, the occasional troll would show up.

We would get a visit from a “posse” member once in a while, who definitely confused Lectio Divina with divination - which of course is forbidden. But it was misconceptions like this that caused unnecessary rifts in the first place, as some there did continually bash Catholicism ad nauseum for years based on what they had been taught, incorrectly. One thing I learned was that some were using already determined terminology using completely different definitions, which only added to their confusion & misunderstanding of authentic Christianity.

There were other eye-opening lessons. I am definitely NOT a trained apologist - but I was shocked to find that there are also those who are members of the Church, who DON’T believe in all its correct teachings; one claimed to be a Eucharistic minister, and another a member of a parish council…both - unbelievably, imo - quite critical of some of the established teachings of Christ through His Church.

On the internet, especially youtube, when I was researching about Roman Catholicism there were always strange pastors who looked neo-protestant to me, who said they were Roman Catholic but I would always find some controversy about them on the net. I hate spying on people on the net but I had become accustomed to research also with “X [name] + controversy + fake Catholic”. The thing is, from what I found out that many of them are failed neo-protestant pastors who have been cast away by their congregations so now they try to build a whole new audience as “Roman Catholic” since many people are ignorant to it. They don’t try to do “Eastern Orthodox” because that is not a thing for their target audience.
But when I hear sermons about light colors, angels of the elements, precious stones and the Archangel, I just move on.

Trying to remember…wasn’t there a “Mary is Sinless” thread? He started that one too, didn’t he? Also, Catholics ARE Christians - which I think I started - based on the remarks of a Protestant deacon I know who likes to literally laugh at me by asking if I’m a good Catholic or a good Christian.

I don’t understand such confrontational rudeness, but after years of remarks like that - to my face - I suggested he get himself a REAL Bible & quit using the one with an earthly king’s name on it (which of course you have heard me suggest over at Amazon many times =)

That DID get his attention - and we have had some interesting conversations since.
 
It is DEFINITELY wise to check sources!

Have seen fake Catholic sites/posters, too. Which of course just adds to the confusion. Imo EWTN is an excellent source, as well as the Catechism; also books/podcasts/websites/etc. by awesome apologists who help explain the faith CORRECTLY - which imo is so important.

Some of the links we used to post at Amazon were to books that can be found here at CAF - which are also reliable sources of info about Christ and the Church He founded. 👍
