AMC's The Walking Dead: Is anyone else noticing this pattern?

It’s a TV show. It’s designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator, our basest emotions,. I watched the first season at the urging of my son, and that was enough,

The writers come up with an idea and wring it out in the first two or three seasons, then just go on replaying the same old junk.
One of the few shows that I didn’t get tired of was Prison Break, but it had a moral underpinning and direction. Even some Catholic influence. But even it began spinning its tires in the third and fourth seasons.

World War Z, on the other hand, was pretty good because the hero found a solution and applied it. And the best part of it was, it had an Ending! Which The Walking Dead hasn’t had yet.
Seems like they only cancel really good shows, like Firefly and John Doe. Junk will go on forever.

Oh my gosh yes. Why does Firefly, which has everything the Walking Dead wishes it had, (good actors, great plot, characters that you actually want to know more about.) get cancelled after half a season, but the Walking Dead goes on for five years? What is wrong with people???

If I remember correctly, it’s because he weeped more for a fictional character than for his own sins. In other words, his priorities were backwards.

There’s nothing wrong per se with feeling attached to a fictional character, as long as you don’t let that distract you from real life.

Every town they go into has no crabgrass and the lawns are manicured perfectly.

Oh my gosh yes. Why does Firefly, which has everything the Walking Dead wishes it had, (good actors, great plot, characters that you actually want to know more about.) get cancelled after half a season, but the Walking Dead goes on for five years? What is wrong with people???

Firefly was too good and some mighty sensitive folks got offended.

FOX played the episodes out of sequence and so the show made no sense to most viewers and the audience was minute.

FOX has a history of epic fails with Sci Fi, like failure to promote ‘Idiocracy’ which is a DVD hit. They also canceled a great show about time travel back to the Jurasic era, cant remember the name though.

There should be a law prohibiting FOX from putting out sci fi so the art wont get destroyed before its time.

**- People have to die because not eveyone can survive a zombie apocalypse.

• Over course there will be sociopaths because when the world is broken down that much, there is bound to be some not nice people.
• The show is far, far, far better than the graphic novels. I have an omnibus with the first 8 graphic novels or so and they start decent enough. However sadistic rape, constant genital mutilation turned me off. Hyper-shock-violence existing just for the heck of it doesn’t do anything for me.****

Wow. So why would FOX agree to air it on their channel if they weren’t even going to give it half a shot? Seems like bad business to me. How could they not see it’s huge potential? It could have easily become this generation’s Star Trek.

Full disclosure, I started reading the comic books from the start and ended just before the show started (life got too busy).

Hubby and I have watched from the start and our enjoyment has ebbed and flowed, like anything else on TV. We have certainly enjoyed the latter half of this season and we were both gobsmacked by the sheer unexpected ride the season finale was last night.

I actually agree about the season finale. I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was. Glad I didn’t give up on it.

I really like how Morgan sees all life as precious and doesn’t kill. It’s a nice contrast to Rick and Carol’s ‘‘Kill everyone who gets in my way and slightly poses a threat’’ attitude that was getting on my nerves. Morgan’s lost just as much as Rick and even lost his mind there for a while but somehow got his humanity back. I’m looking forward to seeing more of him.

Hopefully they won’t kill him off.

Well, that’s just the start of problems. Gasoline has a limited storage life before it goes bad. Not sure how many years have passed in the showtime (enough for Carl to hit puberty, certainly) but presuming its been a couple years, none of the cars that are available for the cast to jump in would work at this point. Batteries on the non-diesel cars would pretty much all be dead, as well. Canned food would be nearing the end of its nutritional value as well at this point, although safe to eat. The cast should be looking a lot skinnier at this point.

I’m always amazed that people can get a face-full of zombie body fluids splashed on them and that it gets in their mouths and eyes and noses and there’s no worries about getting the zombie virus from it. My understanding is that per the show, everyone already has the virus and once you die from any cause, your corpse re-animates, so if a zombie bites you, assuming you don’t bleed out and die from the trauma, you die from the infection from the wound because their saliva is so septic? If so, wouldn’t getting the zombie slime splashed in your orifices be lethal? It’s kind of unclear.

I still like the show, though.

I like the way Morgan has turned out - a guy who after going through a period of insanity, has found his moral grounding and then some - in the middle of a ruthless culture, he values all human life (even forgoing killing the two Wolf members who were going to kill him). It sounds like he will be the Shaolin Monk to Michonne’s Samurai archetype.

The timeline is very condensed and not much has gone by.
From the breakout of the plague, to the CDC was a few weeks, IIRC, and from the CDC to the farm and leaving the farm is only a few months. Lori was pregnant shortly before the CDC visit and it was discovered at the farm, but Shane could have been the father, so it started at around the zombie outbreak.

Season 3 at the prison begins with Lori in the final weeks of her pregnancy, less than nine months time covered over all. The start of season four is only a few months after the end of season three and apparently after winter as the prison dwellers plant and raise vegetables and so forth. So maybe at this point it has been a year, and all the things that happen in season four and five happen within a few months of the prison falling to the Governors attack.

So I am guessing we have seen in story time maybe 15 months of actual time go by, even though Karl has aged six years of growth, lol.

Yeah, I have read that the details for the disease are worked out in detail for continuity and making it easier, somewhat, to suspend disbelief. The infection is at low levels in the body and the bodies immune system can fight it off well enough to prevent turning, but some have turned from death due to illness without any open wounds, and via the wound of an infested instrument or weapon. Other than that large intake of the disease, it is kept at bay by the skins membranes in whatever orifice we may discuss and the immune system.

I still like the show, though.

Yeah, while I dislike Morgan on a personal level (the guy is a fool) I think he is believable, well written and well performed. He definitely adds an interesting dimension to the tales.

I do, however, get taken out of the story with the medical stuff. It never ceases to crack up my husband. “So, so… we’re watching a movie with vampires. Vampires, baby. You’ll suspend your disbelief for immortal, supernatural beings, but you’re ‘taken out of the story’ because ‘the nurse put the IV in wrong?’ What is the* matter* with you?”

lol, yeah. I get the same feeling when I hear my son and his friends debate which super hero is most powerful (when we all know or should know it is Dr Strange) or whether Star Trek cruisers are more powerful than Star Wars battle cruisers.

Hubby and I argue all the time about stupid comic book stuff. We’re probably as bad as those boys. By the way, he thinks that Joachin Phoenix would be a good Strange. I wholeheartedly disagree.
