What does everyone think of American Apparel clothing? According to their official website, “American Apparel uses a vertically integrated business model which minimizes the use of sub-contractors and offshore labor. Knitting, dyeing, sewing, photography, marketing distribution and design all happen in [their] Los Angles facilities.” I have bought a few of their products and have found them to be of good quality, comfortable, and nice looking. I like the fact that they don’t use sweatshop labor.

Their clothes are awesome. Fit a little snug, but they are meant to be “hip.” High quality and best of all made in the USA and the labor is treated well 🙂

Unfortunately their marketing is very scuzzy with pretty riskee images. Grr.

I just went to their website and the first picture showed a model in a ‘suspender swimsuit’… the top half of the suit is just straps… and her right nipple was showing. :ehh:

I thought for some reason that American Apparel was J.C. Penny’s new line to compete with American Eagle/Polo/Abercrombie, I guess that’s a different thing.

What I think is that I’d be more comfortable with American Apparel clothing if their CEO was not such a…well, I won’t say the word:

(This is well-corroborated elsewhere: just google “American Apparel CEO”)

I was waiting for someone to bring up the sexual harrassment accusations against Dov Charney.

A little off-topic, havana1 have you ever seen these shirts latinlaundry.com/lavirgendelacaridaddelcobrewomens.aspx and latinlaundry.com/rosarylogot.aspx or heard of the company that prints them? Admitedly one of the manufacturers of their t-shirts is in fact American Apparel but I’ve purchased two shirts from them and they were made using a different brand. Both were of a good quality

Yeah, Dov has done some questionable things, but his workers are still paid very nicely, and he’s not contributing to the the problem of sweatshop labor.

If you go to www.cheapjap.com you’ll notice some links calling for a boycott of American Apparel for the way they objectify women in their ads. Some of you might want to sign the petition as I have.

Um yeah - I don’t think so.

They have a t-shirt that says “legalize gay”, and another one that is see through and the model has no undergarment on - I don’t need to see naked bodies when shopping for a t-shirt. She couldn’t have a bra on at the very least?

Won’t be shopping there - don’t care how great their business practices are, their moral practices are obviously out the window.

Im usually and all around malcontent when it comes to clothing stores haha, i cant stand american eagle, american apparel, abercrombie, aeropostale, ed hardy, etc. Im an old navy, hot topic, kohls kinda guy 😛

I guess I know too many hipsters, but their style never appealed to me. I thought shiny leggings had mercifully gone the way of the dinosaur…

I haven’t bought anything from there because I don’t have a store near me and I hate-HATE online shopping but I don’t think it’s wrong to shop there. You can’t boycott each and everyone business that has questionable ethics because then you couldn’t eat non organic food, you’d have to pay like $100 for jeans instead of $20 (no sweatshops), only read books or watch movies/shows created sin free, etc.

This store is so trashy and is run by liberal hedonists. The majority of their ads are soft core porn and most of the people who work there are heavily into drugs. This place and the people who shop there are the epitome of planned parenthood, birth controlled up, pro-abortionists.

Do not support them.

Do you any evidence to support the notion that “most of the people who work there are heavily into drugs”? You seem to be a little harsh on AA shoppers.

There’s strong evidence that the store is trashy and run by liberal hedonists. That’s enough reason for any anyone who takes their Christian faith seriously not to shop there.

I’m surprised Charney used Woody Allen’s picture without consent, but it did get AA more publicity. Anyway, their summer line is looking decent.

It fits well with the CEO’s philosophy of debauchery to use the image of a movie director that married his adoptive daughter.

It’s my own thread, so I’m thinking that I can derail it a little. What kind of music do you admire? Also, Woody Allen has made some fantastic films.
