I recently saw a listing for the “American Catholic Church” in my newpaper religion directory. Evidently, they have no affiliation with Rome…does anyone know anything about them?

The one here holds mass in a banquet room of a local hotel, and they accept divorced Catholics, etc.

Just curious if anyone has any knowledge of this group.

Just to clarify, the Roman Catholic church also accepts divorced Catholics… the only stipulation is that if you remarried, you cannot receive communion until you get an annullment.

They descended from the German Old Catholics. They have married clergy, etc and are schismatics not in Communion with Rome.

The American Catholic Church is also referred to as FutureChurch. www.futurechurch.org
They believe in ordination to both male and female, optional celibacy, and gay ordinantion. They have been around for quite some time, under a name change. There have been petitions before the American Council of Bishops to further there wants and needs. There are priests that participate with the group but anomously. Many believe they are not a threat to the Church but I personally believe they could very well be.

I found interesting, their “survey” about the celibate priesthood.

Of their lengthy list of dioceses surveyed, there are some “biggies” missing in there. 😃

Like, Chicago or Joliet…Like Dallas or St. Louis…

I’m sure the rest of you can think of some more.

Nothing like a grossly slanted “survey” 👍

I think Future Church is a different organization. The American Catholic Church seems to run its own parishes and has its own heirarch, similar to the Polish National Church while Future Church appears to be an organization driven to change the Church from within.

Corki,
I thought they were the same…thanks I will do some research
I had had some contact with the WOC (Women Ordination Council) and a group of priests and lay members who are active in the onging requests that they be heard within my diocese. When I was in active discussion with the WOC (simply asking questions) they referred to the American Catholic Church and FutureChurch as if they were the same. Just for information I am no longer a “welcomed” member at their site.
