American Diabetes Association alternative?

I’ve been asked to sponsor someone who is riding in the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure. It is my understanding that the ADA supports embryonic stem cell research and fetal tissue research. Thus, I will not support them. I’m looking for an alternative, as I would like to respond to my uncle’s request for support (his son was diagnosed with type I diabetes as a college freshman). The Denise Faustman Lab at Mass General looks promising - any other ideas?

my reasons for boycotting them after my intensive research into my disease in the 4 years since my diagnoses lie in my disagreement with their recommendations for diet and medication, which seem to me to serve the medical and drug establishment over patient welfare, but since I am no means an expert I can apply that only to my own management of my own condition, diet, meds etc.

I would look for local diabetes education projects especially those aimed at preventing diabetes in pregnant women, children and babies, and agency where you know where your money is going and how it is used.

You know its a terrible sad tune sung today when medical disease research tries to find a cure from every disabled sickness using embryos to justify their research. I myself am a diabetic afflicted by pancreatic cancer and I will vehemently not cater support to any medical research whatsoever. Bad enough the American and Canadian Diabetic Associations give recourse to embryonic research. I have a younger brother dying of A.L.S. (“Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis”) AKA. Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Both A.L.S. and M.S. (“Multiple Sclerosis”) Society of neurological disease research also resort to embryonic stem cell research. My dying younger brother along with myself also terminally ill want nothing whatsoever to do with these associations.

Thank you so much for your replies. It is sooo frustrating that these big “support” organizations seem to be more interested in facilitating lots of pharmaceutical treatments vs really supporting efforts toward prevention. I think I’ll go with Dr. Faustman’s lab at Mass General - she’s doing Phase I human trials that do not seem to be morally or medically problematic. Thanks again for your help - this was my first time posting on the forums!
