This is the response I got back from my email to Bath & Body… they have dropped their funding also! 🙂

I am very glad to hear this, but my understanding is that the alliance was part of its 2005 corporate giving. There was speculation that it would have ended anyway. My biggest concern is American Girls’ responses to us and the media about having done nothing wrong. I think I will always have a bad taste in my mouth about American Girl, even if they stop funding Girls, Inc.

My daughter’s subscription ran out, and I have written them a note about why we are not renewing. I have subscribed to the new Catholic teen magazine at www.truegirlonline.com

we also bought Corelle dolls instead of American Girl dolls this holiday season www.corelledolls.com

Thank you for contacting American Girl to share your thoughts about the 2005 “I CAN” program and partnership. We take all comments from our customers very seriously.

As originally planned, our “I CAN” program and 2005 partnership with Girls, Inc. officially ended on December 26, 2005—when our Website, catalogue, and retail stores shifted focus to our new 2006 products and programs.

We have no definite plans to continue this program in its current format, nor do we know if we will choose another benefit partner for a future campaign. However, we remain focused on our singular objective to help make a meaningful and positive difference in the lives of all young girls. This is—and always will be—our priority.

Again, we appreciate the time you took to let us know your thoughts on this program. We remain committed to creating high-quality, age-appropriate products and experiences for girls.

I honestly believe that if the “I Can” promise with donations to Girls’ Inc. had been a success and gone off without a hitch that American Girl would have renewed their contract with them. American Girl doesn’t want to admit any problems because it *empowers *the boycott against them. It is part of their PR campaign to go on as if nothing happened.

A few weeks ago I received a solicitation for a trial subscription of American Girl magazine. They used very careful wording to appeal to their more conservative customers while not voicing any political agenda to anger their more liberal biased customers.

We will be able to see if there was any financial dent made when we see the company’s fiscal report (they will release it next year) Whether there was any financial dent is only part of the equation. No company wants to be portrayed negatively by their once loyal customers. They are attempting to smooth it over. The most important thing is that you were willing to do the right thing by not giving your money to a company with this affiliation. I want to send my sincere thank you and my utmost admiration to everyone who sent letters, spread the word, emailed various Pro-life Pro-family groups, or helped in other ways.

When I first realized what was going on, after calling American Girl and Girl’s Inc., I felt so frustrated and “small” I half expected others to think it was less important than I. It has strengthened my belief in the good heart of my fellow Americans. I feel a renewed sense of purpose and connection to my Catholic Pro-life community as well as a common goal and love of Jesus Christ with my Protestant bretheren. Together we will rise above the Culture of Death to a renewed United States of America. It was our willingness to join together that caused a change.

I will be at the March For Life in D.C. with my three children tomorrow while my husband is on an Air Force Mission. We will be bundled up and as waterproof as possible. All the people who were willing to take a stand to protest the American Girl affiliation with Girls’ Inc, will be close to my heart.

I agree with about American Girl leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I also agree that there are much nicer dolls from other companies!

If American Girl has mended it’s ways I will purchase their products, though the quality my cause me to purchase elsewhere at times. 🙂

I also wanted to let you know that when we began the protest, calling and emailing Girl’s Inc and American Girl, it only took a few days for them to remove much of the offensive information from their websites to make it more palatable. I haven’t been to their websites since the early days of my research. When I read it, Girl’s Inc. specifically said it was against abstinance only programs. It had lists of ways to help promote the right to abortion and teach girls to assert their freedoms, lobby politicians, etc. It also gave ways such as joining school boards to demand sex education for girls for grades K-12 and making birth control accessable for them. It also had whole links about helping girls to explore their sexuality and be encouraged to act on homosexual tendencies. I am not sure how much of this is left on the Girl’s Inc. site, but it was there when this thread began.

Do they think we are stupid? The letter implies they do. Frankly, I found it insulting.

I am so upset. We have been purchasing “American Girl” products for years. My daughters have quite a few of the American Girl books, dolls and clothing.

They just came out with a new line of Merchandise about a year ago. It is affiliated with a program which promotes “girls rights” They sell an armband, cosmetics, perfume, and other toiletries. It says that a donation from purchase of these products goes to the “I Can” campaign. Part of this campaign is a curriculum for young girls which teaches them abstinance (great right? Yes it would be nice if they left it there) But no, it goes on to say that if they can’t abstain then they are taught about birth control, abortion etc. I called the Offices in DC and New York and sure enough, they say they

Support the Roe V. Wade decision.

Their curriculum is geared toward protecting a girls right to choose

Depending on the local chapter, they have the freedom to promote planned parenthood and abortion clinics.

American Girl products are pricey, but we always felt that it was good to promote chidren’s toys and books that are positive and teach about history. Needless to say, the order I put in last night will be the last, and I will be certain to tell them why, by sending letters to all branches of the company, letting them know that they have lost my family from their list of customers, which includes grandparents, Aunts and uncles and friends.

Most of Corporate America thinks consumers are stupid.

I sent an email asking how they made the jump from totally supporting Girls, Inc., and not backing down on their campaign, to their statement about the “contract” ending December 26, 2005. Of course I haven’t received a response yet.

I just received this same letter. I agree that American Girl and Mattel think the general public is stupid. I think it’s time to take this up again…the dang thing isn’t even signed, just signs off just like above.

There is a Christian company that makes beautiful toys for children (probably started with the homeschool market in mind) that are also historical in approach, very similar to American Girls, but not afraid to promote the values that formed these periods of time. They make very cool objects for boys as well. I don’t recall the name of the business… sorry.

The Christian dolls are sold through visionforum.com/beautifulgirlhood/ However, be aware that this company is run by Reformed Christians. Most of their products are fine, but back when I was attending an Evangelical church, I used to listen to their tapes, read their books and even attended a live speaking event. They are VERY anti-Catholic.

It’s keeping with the topic somewhat. The fact sheet details how Susan G. Komen foundation supports Planned Parenthood, yet never is it mentioned the link between abortion and breastcancer.

Doesn’t this sound like they are keeping each other in business? Kind of like a dentist passing out taffy on the corner. . .

More than likely the Komen foundation doesn’t want to suffer the reprocussions of the onslaught they would suffer from Abortion Rights groups, so they try to keep everyone “happy” by not even mentioning that it is a risk factor… although individual groups have given money and support to PLanned Parenthood.

Just think about Planned Parenthood as an example.

Fact: every form of birth control has a specific failure rate. Condoms may offer some protection against aids or pregnancy, but they are NOT 'safe" Clincs which give out condoms and birth control know there will be a failure rate and they can pick up the pieces.

Myth: Safe Sex is the biggest myth of our culture. When it comes to AIDS its like saying "Hey kids we all know you have guns which you intend to use on each other. Here are some bullet proof vests so when you shoot each other* most* of you won’t die. We will give you the bullets and vests for free, but please if you do get shot come to our clinic and we will fix you up here for a minimal charge and your parents will never need to know… here are some bullets and vests on your way out… make sure you use them properly and have all the “safe” gun fights you want! We will be here to take your money and sew up your wounds if you should get shot… be sure to use your bullet proof vests now…enjoy exploring your animal instinct to fight and destroy others!

I have nothing against the proper use of guns. I agree with the right to bear arms. I also understand that gun ownership is a huge responsibility and takes extensive training to be able to handle a gun properly. It can be used as a tool for feeding one’s family, for enjoyment or as a way to protect oneself or others.

Sex can be experienced as a gift from God in marriage or it can be misused with destructive results. The concept of abusing sex, using it in a selfish and destructive way, yet trying to protect oneself from the consequence of that is like two people wearing bullet proof vests and shooting at each other. If the vest may offer protection from bing killed, but leaves a painful bruise on the body and soul, or if the shot hits elsewhere it can mean death.

The failure rate of hormonal or barrier methods of birth control are low enough to be “acceptable” but high enough to be a lucrative business, it has the appearance of helping women but the reality is destructive.

Dentist passing out candy on the corner, indeed.

I’m sorry to dig up an old thread.

I was curious about this topic as my friend told me the other day she will not support AG.
I went to the links on the original post in this thread. It looks like AG no longer participates in the ICAN campaign?
I googled ‘American Girl and Planned Parenthood’ and no connections came up. So, is this something that AG decided to dump?
