Does anyone watch this??
I love horror films as long as they are done right and I was super excited about this when it came out. I watched the haunted house one, which was good, but I feel like from there it steadily went from ooh this is scary to oh my gosh are they allowed to SHOW that on tv??
Specifically, I’m talking about Hotel, with Lady Gaga. They added it to Netflix so my husband and I were like we’ll it’s the season, let’s give it a shot. We only got about 4 episodes in. It is extremedy offensive with its gay sex scenes, regular sex scenes, and the disturbing content is through the roof. I feel like such shows cross the entertainment line inot the God dies not want me watching this territory. Just wondering if anyone else had any similAR experiences with this show? Makes me sad frankly that they can’t do a good show with out being as disgusting as possible.

Season one was incredible (haunted house). Season two (asylum) was good but not great. Coven was ok. Freak show was bad hotel was downright pornographic. ( the one you mentioned). I would not watch it if I were you. Each season kind of takes a different sub genre. Hotel was obviously horrorcore.

The good news is that the new season has been very good. So far I would say it could be the second best season ( I doubt the first will ever be topped)

I’m not a slasher or horrorcore fan. Hotel really was like homosexual porn. I’m glad I have dvr to skip through parts ( sometimes it was whole episodes)

I doubt on these boards there are a lot of fans of this show. Though I watch it and live the horror genre and think think the story is done well, I cannot imagine recommending this show to a good Catholic. That fact alone alarms me that maybe I shouldn’t watch it.

Why are you watching such TRASH in the first place. Would you do so If the Blessed Mother were setting next to you ??? Or even your own mother! God Bless, Memaw

If only we lived our lives like the blessed mother was with us. But we don’t.

But we DONT! 😉

If we did we wouldn’t own tvs or be online…
But we can choose what we watch and read… UP TO US.

I have no TV by choice for that reason and while I enjoy reading thrillers would nto touch horror novels, after trying Stephen King once,

Youtube the same; wholesome stuff…

Old saying; your mind is like a sewer, What you get out of it depends on what you put into it…

Cannot believe some of what you are letting into your life.

Can’t remember which episode i watched, but I remember watching it and i found it terribly boring. I thought it was horror but apparently it’s meant to be creepy? I don’t know…

I did hear one of the actors talking about those sex scenes on Ellen though. From the way he described it…yeah…it’s trashy

I have to defend myself a little, to the people essentially yelling at me for watching this TRASH…
like I said it used to basically just be horror genre, like rosemarys baby, or the haunting of hill house, what have you. Only lately has it pretty much treaded into trash territory. I’m sorry if many of you don’t enjoy horror or think it’s trashy, but I like it and think k it’s fun as long as it’s not gore or sex filled or makes Satan look good. With that said would Mary have watched it, idk, probably not, but would she have had a facrbook, owned a car, read books that weren’t the bible?

I don’t understand why you’re attacking me. you also didn’t respond to anything else I said in defense except for the car part? I’m not stretching anything. I’m merely saying you can’t know what she would have liked/wouldn’t like in the modern world. excuse me for likING the horror genre, but I grew up on it. like I said shouldn’t be a problem as long as it’s not gore filled or ponographic.

Don’t think they had books to read in her day,( they didn’t even have the Bible then!), as for facebook, there would be lots she would avoid I’m sure, and lots She would want us to avoid… I wasn’t asking what she would do today but what you would do if she were setting beside you. She IS with us all the time as is Her SON !!! God Bless, Memaw

I doubt Mary would have participated in much horror watching at all. And certainly had I the opportunity to have her over for dinner I doubt putting ANY movie or show on would be high on my list. I know from your other posts that you are quite aware of modern tv outside the sphere of ewtn… so in a way we are ALL probably guilty of your condemnations.

However horror has a place in modern society. Ghost stories have been around as long as campfires. From Hitchcock to Annabelle, psycho to poltergeist. Many Catholics have taken in a horror story no worse for wear. In fact many on these boards, (and I agree) point to the exorcist as not only a good horror movie but also spiritually instructional. And while we can debate the trashy-ness of AHS (especially season 5, I cannot stress that enough) nothing on AHS comes close to the sheer vileness of the exorcist.

As for the current season. So far it’s excellent. I don’t want to spoil it too much but it has Kathy bates ( misery) and Cuba gooding Jr. Both of those talents lend credibility to the show. They have backed off season 5 being so sexual. Part of the trashy aspect probably comes from the fact that it’s the same people who write and produce Glee. Hence the season 4 debacle.

If you are coming at it from a “trash” standpoint and comparing it to other pieces in the genre of horror then sure, we can debate that, as it is personal preference. But if you are going to tell me you have not read Steven King, know the shower scene in psycho, understand what the shining was about or have never watched pea soup come out of a rotating head, or heard the phrase " thier here…" Because of your invoking of the blessed virgin in this instance then frankly, I just don’t believe you pay that cable bill solely for ewtn… However, ewtn is a great channel!

I actually understand what you are saying and agree with it on some level. But we all seem to have some sort of duality with modern media. Over here we can’t watch the local news without 30 minutes of a horror movie plot being played out before our eyes. Right now (and I’m not kidding) the news is reporting about creepy clowns stalking people… One could argue though that it is a result of the “trash”
I like to be scared. And most of the history of horror is actually to teach morals. Annabel, the exorcist, even psycho.

Ps. When I was a little tyke there was this movie that came on tv every St Patrick’s day. I think it was called Darby O’gill and the little people. I swear it was Disney… I was wondering if you have seen it and your take on it. Do you find it stereotypical and offensive? I think it had a young Sean Connery in it…

I was young kid but the banshee scene in that movie scared me for years!

I don’t believe I condemned anyone!!! Strong words don’t you think??? If EWTN wasn’t on my cable Co, I would shut it off in a New York minute!!! I have NOT read any thing Steven King, I spent a year in Maine, (in 1991), very close to Durham, where King was from and visited with many prople from there and I can tell you they were NOT proud of him. I didn’t even know who he was then till they enlightened me!!! Never watched Psycho, and the thought of the other,(pea soup) gags me. I am not and never have been the slightest bit interested in that kind o “”“entertainment”"". We would be a whole lot better off if more “invoked” the Blessed Mother in our daily lives. God Bless, Memaw

Also, from a much better storyline if you ask me is A&Es Bates Motel. Which follows a young Norman bates through his mental illness. A gem of a show that doesn’t get enough attention if you ask me. Not nearly as gruesome and shocking as AHS. More of a thriller or suspense.

Now here is one that is amazing from Netflix that is a French subtitled series called “the returned”. Or whatever that is in French… More complex and harder to follow, almost no gore at all. They tried an American remake set in the northwest, it did not go well.

You are probably right, but meanwhile, I have 400 hours of dvr space that can’t all be for football. 😉

Is that why today you have such a fascination for this kind of stuff??? God Bless, Memaw
