I think she just meant my daughter might be interested as a conservative Catholic to know if there’s a connection between the two.
If that is the case then I apologize - I did not read it that way the first time.

I STILL wish that people would stop accusing when there has yet to be ANY evidence produced of a connection that shows Fox/American Idol support and endorse PP.

Now that’s more like it. 😃

Yes - I would have to say that this is highly suspect and that the letters to the parent company Fox are probably not out of line. Although it looks like the contest itself is the doing of that local affiliate, the press release adds a different dimension that questions the intent of the American Idol franchise.

I love watching American Idol, but I am disappointed with the shows affiliation with Planned Parenthood, particularly through the fundraiser, “Idol Gives Back.” I don’t believe that encouraging and supporting birth control and abortion is the way to respond to the poor of the world. And I don’t like seeing the contestants dragged into this controversy through their participation in the fundraiser.

I am considering giving up watching TV for lent.

I emailed Fox and received this reply:
Thank you for your feedback through AskFox.com. FOX Network policy would not allow us to accept an advertisement for Planned Parenthood or similar entities. This advertisement ran at the local level either through a local station or cable provider. Could you be so kind as to tell me the name of your local FOX station as well as how you receive your television signal (e.g. the cable company, Direct TV, etc.) so I can look into the matter further?

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Barbara

I was able to forward the link you all provided, so thanks!

Last year, the American Life League warned about where some of the funds go from the fundraiser, “Idol Gives Back” reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS212806+11-Apr-2008+PRN20080411
Thank you!!

An Lizaanne, while I love how you scrutinize all claims, just verbalizing the fact you were assuming I was bieng “scandalous” was kind of hurtful. It’s okay, just letting you know. I’m also a scrutinizing person who doesn’t fly off the handle for every little thing 😉

Also, yes, it was probably a local thing, but the local station also frequently airs ads for planned parenthood right along side “No stank you ads” that are clearly aimed at teens, and also during more teen-targeted shows.

I can say, if the information is needed, that it was aides on KCPQ 13. TV signal is received through comcast.

And again - what is so wrong with wanting fame? If a person can maintain their moral and spiritual wellbeing - then what is so wrong with fame?

~Liza

If Planned Parenthood is associated with anything then beware. There is no virtue in vice. Whatever PP markets has the effect of undermining our Catholic faith. However we got to “Fame,” we are there.

Is there a more noble goal than fame? Possibly sainthood? Or salvation? Fame is Lame. Watch how the people are treated on the show. There is one winner and everyone else are losers. Who among us would like to shape our youth that way? Where do we experience authentic hope? Not participating or observing the exploitation of God’s children for monetary profit.

So - do you think that Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson were going to be winning Grammy Awards just singing in their small town bars?

They are hardly manufactured rubbish - they are very talented women. They took the chance, entered a contest, and they won. Why is that rubbish?

And again - what is so wrong with wanting fame? If a person can maintain their moral and spiritual wellbeing - then what is so wrong with fame?

because it sends a wrong signal to children (and even adults) that famous people are more valued and that we are judged on our exterior rather than our interior.

Fame is coupled with many things that are bad. Pride, Lust, Greed, Envy. It causes people to envy other peoples lives on the TV and thus allot of they’re actions tend to be fueled by envy, pride and fame. It dehumanizes people and reduces them to mere entertainment puppets and sometimes laughing stocks. It hurts the dignity of our human image and teaches we should value people on external things like fame and money rather than piety and charity. It takes Godless attributes and puts them on a pedestal and puts the ones that actually count as something as worthless and stupid. It doesn’t surprise me Planned Parenthood is involved with such an organization. American Idol is Hollywood and Hollywood is entrenched in social liberalism and the justification of sin(any hear Sean Penn’s recent speech?)
