Did anybody notice last night on Idol Katy “I kissed a girl” Perry had to show up dressed in a slut uniform and immodestly gyrate in front of 30 million child viewers. I can’t tell you how damn sick I am of the filth mongers in Hollywood.
Yes. And did anyone notice that she’s not a very talented singer anyway? It’s sad. She got her start as a Christian singer, and sold out to Hollywood. Oh, well. Danny and Kris were great on the show. 🙂

When I was home sick yesterday, I read a lot of blogs and articles about the Kris vs. Adam thing, and I think it’s fascinating that American Idol turned into a “Christians vs. Homosexuals” thing in the last few weeks.

First of all, I’m a little ticked-off. So many Christians, Catholic and Protestant, have nothing good to say about television and especially reality shows. I’m wondering why they didn’t just mind their own business. This competition had nothing to do with morals or the homosexual issues–it’s a singing competition.

IMO as a musician, Kris is nowhere near the musician that Adam is. Kris is a good pop singer who sounds like a thousand other pop singers, except that Kris doesn’t articulate his words and it’s hard to understand what he says. In any Protestant church, there are dozens of young men who sing as well or better than Kris, and who play instruments, too, and write songs, and go overseas and build orphanages. Why did Christians choose this particular venue to turn it into an “Us vs. Them” contest? Like I said, I’m a little ticked over the last-minute intervention of Christians in a contest that ordinarily, they would condemn as “banal,” “worldly,” “materialistic,” etc.

Secondly, I personally think that Christians are still stinging from the loss of the “Christian candidate,” John McCain to the “Non-Christian candidate,” Barack Obama. So Christians decided that this time, by golly!–we shall not be conquered! So they voted for the “Christian” instead of the “homosexual,” (never mind about the singing ability), and this is making them all feel better about the Obama win. Hey, ya’ll, we may have lost the White House, but wowee wow, God helped us to win American Idol!
Cat, I don’t think anyone’s mindset can be generally determined by some blogs. I don’t feel it came down to a Christian vs. a Gay competition at all. I have never been an Adam Lambert fan. There are many things I didn’t care for while watching his performances. I don’t care for his voice in general, I thought his face was way too dramatic while singing, although that is perfect for Broadway, I couldn’t stand his trademark high- pitch-rift- 😊 he added to almost every song he performed whether it fit or not:shrug:. He seemed like a nice person though, in general. My relatives were split for & against him & I come from a long line of rock & roller musicians so it’s not that I didn’t like the genre…and I’m not a Homo-Phobe, either. I thought his performance with KISS was his best. It is possible that not as many people liked Adam’s style or voice over Kris’s. As far as being a musician, Kris is one. He plays the Guitar & Piano. That makes him a musician. Maybe you meant to say singer? I think Kris is talented & I can hear him singing Jack Johnson/Jason Mraz (sp) type songs in the future. I’m sure we won’t be seeing the last of Adam, Allison or Danny. I think their futures are bright & there is a place for all of them in the entertainment world. I don’t even know what to say in response to the last paragraph except that again I wouldn’t generalize based on a few blogs or a small percentage of people’s opinions.

. While Kris seems like a nice guy, he is not a very memorable singer in my book.
I find this true too. It wasn’t until the last two weeks that I finally recognized and remembered Kris’ name let alone his last name. Boooooring.
I watched every week and just was amazed that I kept forgetting who he was.
Now Alyson, Danny and Adam were vocally amazing and had pizzaz in my book.

But that is what makes AI fun. The voting and the different opinions.

I totally agree. I don’t think this was a “Christian vs. gay” thing at all. I’ve been watching American Idol since season 1 and people are always making conspiracy theories after their favorite contestants fail to win. When Carrie Underwood won, Bo Bice’s angry fans claimed that she only won because Christians and Southerners voted for her in large numbers because she was the “good Christian girl” and Bo “looked like a liberal hippie.” 😛

Musical tastes are very subjective. I’ve never been a fan of Adam (he always seems to be screaming and too theatrical) and many of my friends, both religious and non-religious, feel the same way. I’m a fan of Kris because he’s what I look for in a music artist: he has a good voice, plays several musical instruments (guitar, piano, ukele, violin and viola), writes his own music, and I know that he’ll produce the type of music that I enjoy listening to. Chris Daughtry and Jason Mraz also like Kris and wanted him to win. Kris won American Idol because people like him and his style of music. Rolling Stone recently published an article saying that Kris has a great recording voice. Kris currently has 14 singles in the top 100 of iTunes downloads (“No Boundaries” is at #1), the #1 video (“Heartless”), and the #1 ringtone (“No Boundaries”). 🙂

BTW, I don’t know if anyone has realized this yet, but Kris Allen is the first *married *American Idol.

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

How can anyone not be happy for them? 🙂

Of course most people here won’t admit it, but it most definitely was a Christian vs. other thing. The same thing happened with David Archuleta. My non-denominational friend said he wouldn’t vote for a Mormon.

Oh, I can not be happy for them. Their lives are about to change big time. Anyone who is a Kris fan should start praying now that their marriage lasts. There are many reasons why marriages of couples in the entertainment industry don’t last.

Kris will be exposed to temptations that he doesn’t even know exist, especially sexual temptations, money issues, and various addictions.

And Kris and his wife will endure days, weeks, possibly months of separation from each other, unless the wife decides to join him on the tour. Some women enjoy driving all over the country and living in a bus. I wouldn’t.

And it’s hard to keep singing the same songs night after night with the same intensity night after night for the same crowds night after night. And it always has to get bigger and better–a singer can’t just sit back and rest on his/her laurels, or they’ll be out.

For Christians like Kris and his family, it’s hard to be exposed to the materialism, the sin, the tragedies, the lifestyles of many of the people in the entertainment industry. If they’re like a lot of evangelical Christians, they’ve spent most of their time with honorable people with a God-centered worldview. Now they will be meeting and working with people who are openly gay, people who worship plants, people who are extreme liberals, people who have no other goal in life but their own pleasure, people who party all night and sleep all day–it’s really hard for Christians to handle this graciously.

And you can’t just walk away from it all. You have contracts, obligations, fans.

I hope he makes it.

I remember reading in article a few weeks ago that Chris Daughtry and his wife gave Kris some words of advice on how to maintain a strong marriage while in the music industry. If two people really love each other, it’s definitely possible to maintain a strong marriage no matter what the circumstances. 🙂

Definitely. I’m sure it won’t be an easy transition for them. Many of the top 13 and top 36 contestants seem to really like Kris and his wife. I hope they maintain their kindness, humility and marriage.

My husband and I are bummed. What a letdown.

We think Adam will have the bigger career, though, and that’s a comfort.

I would rather have seen Danny or Allison win than Kris.

Oh, well.
I agree with you. For me, it comes down to one thing - Would I pay money to see this guy?

Adam - yes
Kris - NO

Kris can sing… but he was not as entertaining as Adam. Every week I wanted to see what Adam was going to do, and I was never disappointed.

There were times when he was “over the top” but I was ALWAYS entertained. And that’s what it is about.

I think that Kris is going to go the way of Ruben Studdard and just drop off within a year.

Adam on the other hand now has more control over his career and will do some fantastic things after all of the AI exposure. Black fingernails and all, I look forward to seeing him grow as an artist.

And yes, I downloaded all of his videos, so I can have something to watch until I see him in concert. Woo hoo can’t wait!!!👍

It has nothing to to do with it. I got to the American Idol forums, many non Christians really liked Adam but were getting very frustrated with his singing. They hated the screeching and found it eventually boring and upsetting. Many started out preferring Adam, but changed their mind.

As for Kris, while Adam was annoying people, Kris was picking up fans because he was quitely doing some very original performances every night. Kris is the exact opposite of Adam. Whereas Adam is a showman, Kris is very understated. But he did some very beautiful performances. And he won rave reviews from a lot of the mentors and critics during the season. Many fans were upset because they felt Kris and Allison were never given the credit they deserved for how good they were.

Billboard actually argued that Kris was more marketable than Adam because of Kris’ more radio friendly style.

Also, Kris music was selling a lot more than Danny’s was. He was gaining fans, quitely.

I was torn on who to vote for Kris or Adam. I chose Kris only because I’m more likely to buy his cd, and that was a decision a lot of people made. They loved Adam, would see him on a Broadway play, but felt that the music Adam was presenting on the show was not music they were likely to buy… .It was very frustrating to them because they did like Adam.

I think Kris won because America decided they liked Kris’s musical style better. As for Danny, he was kind of Karoke and one note. He never did anything very original… To be quite frank, and I think he was done after the Dream On performance.

Kris does not have the voice that Adam, Danny, or Allison had when it comes to range. But what he impressed people with his subtlety and nuance and the emotion he could put into his music, which would touch people’s hearts. Ann Powers who was a Lambert fan, mentioned that Kris had his own special magic when it came to that. Kris didn’t need dry ice.

I think there were many turning points for Kris. If you look on Television Without Pity, the forum writer refored to Kris as Pocket Idol. She started out loving Adam but by the end of Heartless, said oh my gosh I love him more than Adam. That’s essentially the journey a lot of people took on this show.

But turning points for him were Ain’t No Sunshine, and I think a huge one was Falling Slowly. Kris got huge musical credibility for picking an Indy song and takin the risk of doing that instead of doing a popular song. Many people just grew to love Kris’ taste in music. And felt they’d love an album he made.

I didn’t vote for Kris because he was a Christian, but I actually think Kris winning American Idol is one of those destiny things. I can’t put my finger on it, but I think that this was suppose to happen. And I think the guy is more talented than he’s given credit for…

As for Adam, it will all depend on what type of music Adam chooses to do. I think if Adam goes the glam rock/Axel Rose style singing, I don’t see him as being as big as Simon thinks he’ll be. If Adam tones it down, Adam will be HUGE. I think that Adam should just do what he loves to do.

Do you like the way Kris doesn’t enunciate? I know that’s the “pop way,” especially among contemporary Christian musicians, but Adam managed to sing pop/rock and STILL make himself understood.

I would never have understood Kris’s words on the Sunshine song if I didn’t kind of know the words already. Same for most of his other songs.

I honestly thought he would be voted out right after Megan. If a singer is so capable of growing and improving like Kris, then perhaps the way the Idol is voted should be reconsidered. Maybe if Megan or Michael or Scott had had the entire 10 weeks to sing and “grow,” maybe THEY would have won. Maybe rather than voting someone off every week, the producers should allow all ten contestants to sing week after week, and then take one vote in the final week.

(Michael and Scott would have been preferable in my opinion to Kris. Megan should never have been in the Top 30 to begin with–it was purely her beauty that got her there. Allison Grace should have been in that Top Ten, not Megan.)
