A coworker gave me a large amethyst crystal for my birthday. It’s beautiful and I would love to keep it in my china cabinet. Although I have no intentions other than to enjoy it for it’s beauty, I came to suspect that it may have been used for New Age purposes. I came to believe this because she told me later that I should set it outside during each full moon to let it charge, and that she does the same for her crystals at home.

I wish I could keep it because it is really nice and I’d hate to have to do something like pitch it in the river. I was wondering if having it blessed by a priest would remove any nefarious attachments it may possess.

What are your thoughts and what would you recommend I do?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

In my opinion it’s just a crystal that may or may not have been left outside at night before (though it probably spent far longer outside before it was ever mined). You have no new age attachment to it, so no worries. Leave it on display.

And maybe she told you that just to yank your chain, pull your leg, troll you . . . 😉

Just because someone told you to let it “charge” during a full moon, doesn’t mean you have to take that advice.

Find a nice place to display it for its artistic beauty.

Crystals are part of God’s creation. I’m a rock hound 🙂 Enjoy it!!

You’re in no more danger than someone with a rock collection.

I can see nothing to worry about. Although I would pray for your friend who ‘charges crystals’.

Just get it blessed, it is a mineral, Is it in crystal form or mineral form?

Minerals like this are lovely and many have them as collections for their beauty. They have no special powers.

Whatever you do, don’t do that! That would be a direct violation of the 1st commandment.

Otherwise, an amethyst is just a pretty mineral that would make a nice decoration in a china cabinet.

If you like, it keep it. If you don’t like it, get rid of it. There’s no more evil connected to it than any random rock in your yard…

I had an amethyst in my china cabinet that was in my grandmother’s things. I just regifted it to my Wiccan neighbor for her Feb birthday. Because I’m cheap like that. Now we’re both happy. I have no idea if she will set it out to “recharge”. I can hardly remember to charge my phone. 🤣

one rarely sees a suggestion that is literally loony

Sounds like you need to calm down… in a rocking chair 🤣
Just watch your tail!

😱 😝

It’s hard to say how many sides - it’s part of an amethyst geode that was split open containing hundreds of tiny crystals on the inside. Sometimes I wonder if amethyst geodes are petrified fruit from some of the antediluvian trees, but who can say for sure.

My mother’s birthstone was an Amethyst. She had a couple of bracelets with Amethysts in them, and they are beautiful. I love colored gems. Nothing wrong with admiring the beauty of a natural colored gem.

BTW, I prefer the Amethysts that are a darker, richer purple. Some of them are so pale, they don’t have much color, at all.

Enjoy your crystal. It won’t bite.

I love crystals- in fact I make rosaries with them! They’re round or faceted round. Perfect for durability and strength.
