Amnesty International - activism, social justice

I was thinking about how to apply some effort to working for justice, which is certainly a broad subject.

Last night I thought about writing letters for the causes that Amnesty International takes up. Does anyone else do this? Due to their support of abortion, I wouldn’t financially support them, but helping with their work for individuals seems like it would be good work for social justice.

I’m not sure what other ways to go about doing that. What do you do?
 
Yes - I was somewhat aware of that, as well. My intent is to stay away from anything remotely controversial. They do a lot of good in terms of political prisoners, so I would focus on letters of that sort.
