An altar with severed heads

I have a hard time imagining taking a family with young children to this parish for Mass every Sunday, especially if it is their habit to sit in the front row. The older kid might round up the younger siblings, saying, “Come on, time to visit the heads again.”

The altar looks ok to me. A bit different but still in the Catholic tradition.

If you back off a bit and blur your eyes it looks a little like cauliflower.

i would call anything that reminds me of the martyrs to be very religious art.
I wish we had it.

Well, we all have different tastes. I will just say one more thing and then leave it. You say you wish you had it in your parish, but judging from the responses of this thread, even though you would like it, many in any given parish would not like it. Now, there probably does not exists a religious artwork that everyone loves, but one should still strive for artwork that at least will not be divisive. Especially if it is part of an altar. No matter how much I like something, I would not want it in my parish if it was to be divisive. I find that artists who like to develop these radical types of art and people who favor commissioning them seem to not care about divisiveness.
