An American joined the Royal Family........and I wept

I would never view that that way - that’s still Harry’s aunt. They said it was to include the Spencer side, but I don’t know I’d consider that a tribute.

My favourite fish wrap posted the sermon notes:

I can’t find them anywhere else at the moment, but I thought I’d share them anyway! 🌷

That sermon was also an historical moment.

To see a man stand and preach the Love of God to the Queen and Princes and celebrities and the fashionable and soldiers and artists, to preach about changing the world through Christ’s love to the very people who have the earthly power TO change the world.

I wept.

There was an empty chair near William, for her. And her sister was one of the readers

Did you mean next to the Queen? That’s just protocol, not a tribute. Although apparently one of the songs at the wedding was also used at Diana’s funeral - it was also used at William and Catherine’s wedding. I don’t know if that was meant to be a tribute, though.

I see.
Well there were other more private tributes. Harry chose the flowers from the gardens for her bouquet, as they were Diana’s favorites. Megan also wore a cocktail ring of Diana’s.

Diana was not forgotten.

When I hear the word “tribute” I think of something specific that highlights and is specifically noted and someone says “this is for that person”.

I wore the ID bracelet my late father gave my mother about 65 years ago that has a picture of my young father in it when I was confirmed. I wore it because he was a Catholic and because I missed him and wanted him there. To me that’s tantamount to flowers picked because Harry’s mom liked them. That’s hardly a tribute.

Jane is Harry’s aunt. Picking her for a reading isn’t a tribute to Diana. It’s making sure the other side of the family was there.

She no longer has her corgis. The last one died about a month ago. She said she would not replace the last one who died.

This American woke up early and enjoyed watching it as well. In fact my whole family was up by 6:30 to see the ceremony at 7. I did not see a tribute to Diana though, did I miss it?
only one of her sister’s was involved - she did a reading.

i live in the West so i began watching the coverage at 1am. i think i finally went back
to bed around 7am.

Well, in that sense, it would have been wrong to pay tribute to Diana at their wedding in my opinion, as it would have put the focus on Diana, and not the couple. This was Megan and Harry’s day, not Diana’s

Yes, I heard about that. She actually bred her corgis. She is into both breeding them and horses.
Now that she is 91, she didn’t want to continue the line

I agree. All the commentators seemed happy to link the day to Diana anyway - no effort required by Harry and Meghan on that score.

It’s so strange to see how much older her sisters and her brother have gotten, and to think that she was only a few years younger than her sister and only a couple of years older than her brother.

Her sisters are now in their sixties. Diana would be 57 in a couple of months. Her brother is about 55 or so. But she’ll always be 37 and young. No matter what she was, she was their mom, their sister. The older I get, the more tragic it becomes. It hit me yesterday that she’s been dead almost 21 years.

She actually just turned 92 in April. Philip was looking amazing for being 96 and just having hip surgery. Holy smokes - that blew my mind. No matter how much cash you have, you’re still 96, you know?

Now HE was quite the looker in his prime. So easy to see how Elizabeth fell for him!

I was happy to see the BBC was somewhat devoid of that. They mentioned her once or twice, which of course is appropriate, but I’m sure the Americans went on and on.

I noticed how the sister had aged as well, and was wondering how Diana would have looked now. like Marilyn Monroe, Diana will always be remembered as the beautiful woman she was when she died in her 30’s.
Charles looked handsome, but they probably didn’t want to put him in front of a
microphone after the things he said at the
funeral.
William and Harry have turned into 2 very handsome and intelligent men. Diana had enough time with them to provide a powerful influence and i think Charles did a good job with the rest of the royal family.
William and Harry have two beautiful wives now and are adults and I think the monarchy will carry on.
I Don’t foresee Charles on the throne too long. he is really looking old. and who knows how much longer the Queen will remain on the throne especially after Phillip passes. I noticed he walked in on his own, but I didn’t think he looked well.
it will be a sad day when the Queen dies.
I was born in 1952 so she has been on the throne my whole life!

The Queen knows .

She will remain on the throne until she passes .

Remembering the Queen’s father and his brother who was king for a short time , “abdication” is a dirty word in the royal family .

Philip looked as good as any 96 year old post-major hip surgery. He looks better than some 60 year olds that I’ve seen have similar surgery, to be quite honest. He’s probably in better physical shape than the average American 60 year old, and I don’t mean because he’s got access to the best medical care either.

The Prince of Wales turns 70 this November. I think his reign might be short, but if the longevity of his parents and his grandmother (his grandfather died of lung cancer likely due to the heavy smoking that was encouraged at one time as a treatment for his stutter) are indicative of anything he might shock us.

I agree that when Philip passes away - should he pass first - Elizabeth might not be long behind him (that’s a common thread with long married folks like them), but she’s still her mother’s daughter. She too might surprise us all. And she seems to still have all her faculties as well, not that every older person develops dementia. She was walking rather spry for a 92 year old yesterday. 🙂

Hey there, Colin. I didn’t realize this was you! ML and I watched the royal wedding together. Looking at the chapel, and listening to the choir and richness of British tradition on full display, I kept thinking of you and all that you had shared with us on the other forum.

I cry a lot at weddings and I couldn’t help but tear up at times. I’m an old goob too.

At any rate, both of the Catholics in this household thought Bishop Curry went on too long. 😁

I’m so pleased that I’m able to say ‘congratulations’ to you on this forum.

Thanks , Tad . 😃

The respect is mutual , brother .

On the other forum for me you were always the Christian gentleman .

I have heard a few say Bishop Curry’s sermon was too long , but it was fine for me .

It’s a marvel that the Lord has brought us together again on this forum , including your beloved ML who is always at the back of my mind when I converse with you .
