"An analogy of getting into Heaven and a great College"

Shalom,all my Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,This morning at Mass,the Priest gave a wonderful analogy of trying to get into a great college,and trying to get into Heaven.

He went on to say,If we wanted to go to Harvard we would need very high marks,however,if your Mother or father were an alumni at that college,you could have substantially lower marks, and still be admitted before the higher grade student,and thats not fair.

If you wanted to go to West Point,that would be even harder. You may have to know a congressman,and let him pull some strings for you, but then again,If your mother or father is an alumni there,you will be accepted with out too much trouble,and thats not fair.

Now to our Holy Catholic Church; If you were born and raised a Catholic, it seems that you are again in that desirable position of alumni,and rightfully so,but this time God says; “I say to “ALL” people,you “ALL” will have the same chance to get into Heaven,by loving and surrendering yourself to me.” I guess God makes us all even,and thats FAIR!

Sorry, I added this; Let us remember what Jesus said; “There are many rooms in my Fathers house”, and John 10;16; “I have other sheep that are not of this fold” May Our Lord Bless us all, and melt our hardened hearts…Blessings,Robert

Hi Walking Home, It amazes me why you would make such a judgement on me because of a little story from a Very Holy Priest,or maybe your looking what I added,and you think that only Catholics can get to Heaven.If that’s what you think,I would disagree with you…Our Dear Pope John Paul II’s arms were wide open for all of Gods people.I certainaly believe that all salvation comes from Jesus Christ Our Lord,Through His Holy Catcholic Church. I do hope I’m misunderstanding you,and if so I’m sorry,and if not,I would respectfully disagree with you. Many Blessings to you for Easter,Robert

I agree-- all salvation comes thru our Lord Jesus Christ and His Church — but that is not what you initially stated. You said God makes us All even --therefore leading to making the Church just another avenue for salvation alongside – the protestant denominations, and the other religions.
 
Hi Walking Home, That wasn’t me that said that,that was the Priest’s story.I think it was a great story for us to share with our non-Catholic Brothers and Sisters,with a messege,that if we truly Love Our Savior,and truly surrender our selves to Him,we can all make it to Heaven. If anyone makes it to heaven – it is via the Church – and NOT via a protestant denomination or another religion. Something to keep in mind --indifferentism can affect not only the laity-- but members of the clergy too.

By the way – what the priest said— seems to fall along the lines of what our Pope express as --"Jesus yes, Church no etc. "

Therefore, a slogan that was popular some years back: “Jesus yes, Church no”, is totally inconceivable with the intention of Christ. This individualistically chosen Jesus is an imaginary Jesus.

We cannot have Jesus without the reality he created and in which he communicates himself. Between the Son of God-made-flesh and his Church there is a profound, unbreakable and mysterious continuity by which Christ is present today in his people. He is always contemporary with us, he is always contemporary with the Church, built on the foundation of the Apostles and alive in the succession of the Apostles. And his very presence in the community, in which he himself is always with us, is the reason for our joy. Yes, Christ is with us, the Kingdom of God is coming.
 
Let’s be sure to speak about first causes here. If anyone makes it to heaven, it’s because of Christ first. But all those who are in Christ are in His Church (whether visible or invisible). Hence, if you are not in the Church (again, visible or invisible) you are not in Christ, therefore you cannot be saved. But let’s be sure to put Christ first here - I know what you’re saying, Walking_Home, and I agree with you, but saying things like “saved VIA the Church” will give Protestants nightmares because they’re likely to misunderstand it. And as a former anti-Catholic, I would thrive on opportunities to misconstrue and defame the Church.
