Your comment in thread #69 … implies you have read the bible.
Yes, a very long time ago.

The OT struck me as what I would now describe as ‘fire and brimstone’, whereas the NT was so markedly different as to create an irreconcilable confusion about the cohesion and consistency of the Bible. Before you ask, no, this is not why I’m an atheist. I simply never believed.

If understood as a compilation of parables, there is plenty in the Bible that atheists can and do agree with - provided the specific lesson on morality can be divorced from dogma and doctrine that atheists do not accept. Likewise, there is a lot that atheists will summarily reject - and not necessarily for the obvious reason.

Hi Monarchy,

I’ve been a Catholic for 40 + years. If I understand you correctly, you don’t object to my Faith which is based on reason. Am I correct?

Thank you, 🙂

Mary
Hi Mary! Sorry I didn’t do this sooner but I have been gone for two days. I do not have a problem with your, or anyone else’s beliefs, as long as they do infringe upon others rights, or if you believe untrue things. I would think, for example, that you would object to sombody’s belief that all catholics are devil worshipers and that the rosary is an evil thing.

As far as reason, I would ask for you to show how you come to your conclusion, as I find reason and faith don’t intermix very often. I would say that I use reason to come to the the conclusion that there is no proof that God exists.

Wolpertinger, sorry for the late arrival. Thank you. My very best wishes to you and yours for a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2005 ~

Mary:)
