I’ve heard his comments on those subjects, and they’re right out of the CCC.

Quite often, those who don’t want to have their hearts softened, or to hear or see what God wants them to see and hear have a reaction similar to “he was judgmental and nasty.”

I’ve also heard him speak often that to sugar coat the teachings of the church so as not to offend someone is not doing them any favors. I agree with that.
Then you disagree with Pope Francis and the past two Popes.

Truth must be presented with compassion and mercy, for God is compassionate and merciful toward us.

Do you believe that we have a reasonable expectation that all men will be saved?

No.

Jim
So you are judging “compassion and mercy?” You know what is in Voris’s heart?

It is not compassionate and merciful to present a half truth, or to de-emphasize it to the point where people actually don’t “get the point.” They need to hear the truth, and hear it well. In time, they will come to appreciate the fact that somebody was willing to speak to them in a way that gets their attention, instead of in a wishy-washy way that allows them to think that their sin is really not a sin.

From Ezekiel chapter 3:

When you hear a word from my mouth, you shall warn them for me.
If I say to the wicked, You shall surely die—and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade the wicked from their evil conduct in order to save their lives—then they shall die for their sin, but I will hold you responsible for their blood.

“Lukewarm” doesn’t do the trick here. “Lukewarm” can be, and almost always is dismissed as “I guess it’s not really important.”

Do you believe that we have a reasonable expectation that all men will be saved?
No, not all men will be saved.

As Pop John Paul II said, God doesn’t send souls to hell, they go there on their own.

Keep in mind who Christ gave the authority to teach His Church.

Jim

When I hear the phrase “traditional movement” I think of what I call Lefebvrist traditionalism, and those forms of it which are more or less skeptical of everything the Church has done since 1962. Yes, those groups claim to be loyal to the Holy Father, but this often is an external assent alone.

Would you describe this channel in that way, or do you just mean that he has a preference for older devotions and for the Vetus Ordo?
“Jim” didn’t answer your question above. I guess he forgot. Or perhaps he thinks that there is such an association.

Neither Church Militant nor Voris are associated with the movements mentioned above. They are in fact quite against them. He does like communion on the tongue, and more reverence for the Eucharist than you see in some parishes. I personally think communion in the hand is OK too, but overall, Church militant is saying things that need to be said and need to be said loud and hard.

Judging compassion and mercy ? I know what the terms mean.

Voris was aggressive and vulgar in his attacks of homosexuals and couples living together, yet he was exposed to have done the same. The issue wasn’t that he repented and changed, but that he lacked the compassion and forgiveness he was given in his broadcasts.

This was on his public RealCatholicTV website which he had to change the name of.

Voris does not have authority to teach publicly, as Scott Hahn does. I

Voris wasn’t providing truth, but a fundamentalist’s interpretation of Church doctrines. There is a reason why the Bishop’s told him to remove Catholic from his webpage.

Follow the teachings of Pope Francis, not Michael Voris, you’ll be better off.

Vulgar?

To some, saying anything that they don’t want to hear is being “not compassionate.”

Forgiveness - I have heard him many times repeat that we need to forgive others. Again, some people who don’t want to hear something automatically assume that the speaker is “not forgiving.”

For those that don’t want to hear, it seems that all they need to do is yell “Not compassionate, not forgiving!” and quite often the speaker retreats instead of holding their ground.

Could you provide some examples? Also, what is your definition of fundamentalist?

You like Voris listen to him.

I’ll listen to those who have the authority to teach Catholic doctrine.

These days, the Bishops can’t seem to agree on doctrine, much less on who should teach it. For example, some bishops excommunicate those who receive communion while publicly supporting abortion. And some don’t. And no matter what the Pope seems to say, there are “clarifications” that come out later.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

But I’m glad you got it all figured out! 👍

False, the Bishops are unified on Catholic doctrine.

Jim

Doctrine - you mean dogma?

So which Doctrine / Dogma has Voris gotten wrong?
I don’t know off hand, I haven’t listened to him in years.

I really don’t care, he doesn’t have authority to teach Catholic doctrine.

Jim

Stay away from it.

The Church Militant is run by Michael Voris a staunch right wing Catholic who ran RealCatholicTV until the Bishop of Detroit told him to stop using the title Catholic in his site.

He produced scathing attacks against various Bishops in the past and has little understanding on Catholic doctrine and the true meaning.

Jim
Dear Jim, OCDS

Hi. I think there’s some misunderstanding. I think confusing “Church Militant”, which hosts Michael Voris, with TheChurchMilitant (This one is Gabriel’s)These are two very distinct people, and two distinct channels. I don’t know much about Mike Voris, but that’s a different topic 🙂

The guy who makes these videos on the page I posted is a guy named Gabriel Castillo. He made three channels, named GabiAfterHours, TheChurchMilitant (not Voris), and kolbe1019. Gabriel Castillo stopped posting on his TheChurchMilitant account, but

I see this thread developed into a Michael Voris thread LOL.

I didn’t mean to type about Michael Voris at all. I hope it clears any confusion.

Anyways, I would say that Gabriel Castillo is still a saint.

All the best

If the source isn’t approved by the Church, it’s suspect, even if it seems right.

Jim
Gabriel Castillo isn’t approved of the Church per se, but he plays a major role in his Catholic Church, which is loyal to the Holy Father. He is also a theology school teacher for a Catholic School.

Gabriel Castillo is* not the bad kind of traditional*. He never talks against modernism in the Church, he is only concerned with helping people be holy in everyday life. He doesn’t condemn receiving Communion in the hand, he just cautions to be very careful to not let a particle break off the host, and to check your hands. He also is fond of ad orientem and the Latin Mass, and kneeling for Communion, but he is 101.5% loyal to the Pope.

His videos aren’t really like Catholic news. All he’s concerned about is saving souls. All his videos are about helping Catholic with their spiritual life. This is why he promotes the Rosary, because he knows it’s the best way to preach. If you wanted to summarize what he says in a couple words it’s this: be Eucharistic centered, and be Marian 🙂

All the best!

Here’s a good video by him:

OK, glad to hear its not Michael Voris, Church Militant.

So how do you know that Gabriel Castillo is approved by the Church ?

Can’t see anything in the website stating such.

That’s true. This guy, even though he is very good, isn’t infallible. He’s still a very good speaker, and similar to watching EWTN, it’s helpful to watch his videos
