Hello all…

Those of you in the Pittsburgh area know that one of our very liberal priests left the Church and started his own church which is sort of a Unitarian Church. He was rightly excommunicated by our Bishop.

Well I have been keeping tabs on his website www.christhope.com and I saw this nugget there:

“ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO HOST ME, FATHER BILL HAUSEN,
AT A MEETING IN THEIR HOME FOR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND
NEIGHBORS, TO SHARE AND CHAT ABOUT IDEAS CONTAINED
IN THESE WEB PAGES, PLEASE CONTACT ME BY E-MAIL OR
BY PHONE. HAVE CAR, WILL TRAVEL!”

Hmmmm…sinister apologetics/evangelization ideas are racing through my mind…

Invite some of my good apologetics friends over while I invited Father Bill and we “discuss” his ideas? I don’t know if I have the guts to do it…what do you think?

I have nothing constructive add other than to say I think you should definately take him up on his offer after some study of his beliefs.

What immediately popped into my head when I read the title, however, was “with fava beans and a nice chianti” 😃

Shame on you, Dr Lector. 😃

If you go that route, don’t be surprised if the priest gets up and leaves, disgusted at being set up.

I dropped by his web site.

I wonder what an “Ecumenical Catholic Church” is? He might as well call it the “First Church of Bill”.

Definitely strange.

And sad.

He’s probably a Browns fan too.

I have absolutely no sense of humor regarding that last remark. Obviously he could only be a fan of those schismatic heretics the Ravens.

My friend you are underestimating my ability to cook and his shameless solicitation of a free meal 🙂

Great idea! Only, be in the mindset to ask questions and learn, not preach. You can get him to think by asking questions…

Wow. The boy got himself banned after only two days and 12 posts. That’s quite an accomplishment. 😉

I agree. The Ravens are schismatic. The Steelers, however, are the one true faith (with a lower case “f” of course 😉 )

Let them alone. None can come to the Father unless they are called. Let the dead bury the dead.

I hope you are talking about the ex-priest, not the Browns.

He probably is talking about the ex-priest, but now that you mention it, it would also be appropriate for the Brownies. 😃

(Sadly, it probably applies to the Steelers this year as well).

I’d be inclined to agree… Pride cometh before the Fall. Be careful, temptation comes in many guises and he may be more persuasive than you think. Seeds of doubt can be planted just as the weeds were in the parable. He’s not looking to be brought back to the church, and unless you can approach it with real humility, giving the encounter over to the Holy Spirit, you set yourself up. I would pray about it first and give it over to God. If He is so inclined to lead you in that direction then let Him use you, but don’t do it as a “dare”.

Very prudent advice.

Of course, we’d all like to believe that you could win one for our side and bring him back around, but I think I would also advise caution. 😉

A brief tour of his website shows that he has “two seminarians” who will be called “by the community.” Yet he also reiterates that he is a “validly ordained priest.” Will Fr. Bill become Bishop Bill soon? This is more than just excommunication, it seems like the birth pangs of schismatic movement.

Another excellent example of Cafeteria Catholicism. Another schismatic movement.

How evil it was for King Jeroboam to corrupt Judiasm (no need to make a trip to Jerusalem; keep the tithes and offerings in the local communities; ordain unauthorized priests; make false sacrifices to idols instead of to God; create a stumbling block for so many Jews who won’t know the difference between right and wrong). See book of Tobit to see that many died as a result. Oops, Protestants had to get that out of the Bible to hide the evidence of their errors. The Christ Hope Ecumenical Catholic Church better start paring down their Bible if they want to stick around.

I guess the first Protestant was Cain who killed Abel.

Note to original poster: I think this should have been under “Non Catholic Religions” or “Spirituality”. Not in “Sacraments”.

Reminds me of this.

There’s one of these churches near me - the “priest” is a married man who is an Episcopal pastor, and he holds these “Catholic” masses in his Episcopal church. There seems to be a lot of similarity in those schismatic churches…

That has got to be the most idiotic comment I have seen on this forum.
