Hey CAF! I just saw that a new book was just released from the late Vatican exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth. It is called An Exorcist Explains the Demonic: The Antics of Satan and His Army of Fallen Angels. It looks really good, and I wanted to share it with you all! I provided the link and some excerpts from the webpage below:
From the late Fr. Gabriele Amorth, the Vatican’s chief exorcist in Rome, comes this powerful, eye-opening book on the deadly antics of Satan.
“Exceptional and timely, Fr. Amorth expertly demystifies the Church’s ministry of deliverance and exorcism.”
-Kathleen Beckman
Author of God’s Healing Mercy
“We owe a debt of gratitude to Fr. Amorth for his many years of ministry and this latest of his writings which help us to understand more the mysterium iniquitatis.”
-Abbot Eugene Hayes, O.Praem, J.C.D., S.T.L.
St. Michael’s Abbey
“Fr. Amorth with his signature clarity, certainty, and discernment provides the reader with a keen insight into the machinations of the devil.”
-Very Rev. Jeffrey S. Grob, J.C.D.
Chancellor, Archdiocese of Chicago

May God bless you all! 🙂

I read it not too long ago. It explains in a general way the demonic: possession, obsessions, vexations, infestations, etc. It ends with a prayer a lay person can use against the demonic, against curses, witchcraft and the like.

Anyone who has not had any problems with the demonic is fortunate and should be very grateful. For whatever reason, God has not allowed the devil full permission to harass everyone, but others have had problems with the demonic. Everyone probably has temptations, though.

Is there any kind of pattern to it? I’ve been actively involved in the occult for about two decades now, and still no demons. What gives?
Why should the devil bother you? You’re already going his way!

So if I go to confession, should I expect lots of demons?
With sincere repentance of your sins, a desire to love God and willingness and effort to do penance (building on the virtue of humility) you will gain a spiritual insight and vision that you seem to be lacking now.

Spiritual blindness, dullness of soul, inner conflict (sarcasm towards others), frivolous attitude towards God, carelessness towards salvation and one’s own eternal destiny, mockery of religion … these are all indicators of a demonic presence.

But if you want to immerse yourself fully in evil, by doing the things that Satan does, and by desiring to be possessed by him - you will eventually see the demons you are looking for.

But once you get in at that level it is very difficult to get out. As it seems the topic of this book will describe.

I become uncomfortable when things go well in my life. Not sure if this is in the book, but I believe that one of the things that the devil does to individuals when they tow the line is … nothing.

Hi Clevus,

I was actually thinking the same thing that you posted, while reading through this thread.

I have read that the devil/other dark spirits will harass those who are trying their best to be/remain close to God.

Hey! Thank you! Funny enough I just came across Father Amorth yesterday. I was reading about the last interview he gave and about some of the exorcisms he performed. Very interesting stuff. I’ll have to check this out.

I have read this too. The closer we try to get to God the more satan will try to torture us. My answer to this is keep praying, especially the Rosary and that will keep him at bay.

Hi. Maybe the operative word here is “harass”. The person who is “trying their best”, will on some level find mini-waves or even a tidal wave of oppression rage against them, because they are attempting to swim in rough seas, while the person who does not feel harassed, is either not bothered about where they end up, or did not set out in the first place. The person who ends up getting a lift in a boat when swimming hard is the one that prays throughout.

I agree.

I have noticed that I will be met with different kinds of temptations.

It’s like he knows where we’re weak, and what will tempt us. I just try and cling harder to God then. We have to keep on fighting. 🙂

Hi Friardchips,

Good post!

I agree with you, too.

We need to keep on praying, and when things get rough, not give up, either. 🙂

Yes, that is correct, its no coincidence that some people have fairly easy and comfortable lives in the world, if you are already firmly on the path to hell, why would demons need to do anything more?

One thing to consider is that when you become more spiritual, for example by praying more, reading more Scripture, or working harder to meet God’s expectations in some way, then you become more aware of a lot of both good and bad things happening on the spiritual level. For example, you may be more able to “hear” or discern what God is saying to you or what God wants for you, but along with that may come a greater awareness of or trouble from the devil.

Both God and the devil were there all along, doing their thing - you just weren’t as attuned to pay attention to either of them.

Yes temptation is a big one and we are weak though never give up and keep close to God. He will suggest things to us…anything that will make us sin but like you say if we cling to God, He will do the rest 😊

I can remember now and again while praying I used to hear a voice cursing and laughing as in a mocking way, especially while I was praying the Rosary. I used to stop praying cause I thought it was me, it was upsetting but then I started to do research and realise it was the evil one trying to stop me praying the Rosary. It just goes to show how powerful the Rosary is when he was really determined to stop it being prayed!

Quotes I get comfort from:
“The Rosary is the ‘weapon’ for these times.” -Saint Padre Pio.

“The Rosary is a powerful weapon to put the demons to flight and to keep oneself from sin…If you desire peace in your hearts, in your homes, and in your country, assemble each evening to recite the Rosary. Let not even one day pass without saying it, no matter how burdened you may be with many cares and labors.” – Pope Pius XI

From the website:

Fr. Amorth has performed over 50,000 exorcisms and was world renowned as one of the Church’s leading exorcists until his death just weeks ago…

**Has anyone done the math: **

Assuming a 50 year run we have 50000 exorcisms/50 years = 1000 per year or an average of 2.7 exorcisms a day, 7 days a week for 50 years.

Fr Amorth had an extraordinary busy life.
