I thought I heard on the radio, or read someplace, that there’s a historical example of the Holy Spirit preventing a Pope from teaching error. Supposedly, someone had drawn up a document that either supported heresy or lifted excommunication on some heretics claiming they were in the right, or else took the wrong side of a controversy but the Pope at the time died before he could sign it and his successor disavowed the whole thing. If I remember correctly, it’s assumed that the pope would have signed it had he not died first, but who can say.
Does anyone know if this is an accurate statement?
Thanks in advance
