An idea called the Michaelion

I have an idea that I’m thinking of submitting to my priest for my parish. I wonder what you all think.

The Michaelion

A fraternity of parishioners who say the Prayer to Saint Michael after Mass.
A group who ministers to those suffering from mental or spiritual problems; gathering and deseminating Catholic resources for those in need of them.
A priest comes in occasionally to pray, guide and make sure things are in line with Church teaching.
Members pray, especially Rosaries; for the needs of those in spiritual warfare.

It’s modeled after Protestant Fresh Hope groups, Stephen Ministries and Catholic Confraternities.

I’ll appreciate any insights you all may have. God keep you and may Saint Michael pray for us all.

The part about praying to St. Michael as a group sounds fine.

If you are wanting to minister to people with mental problems, I can see a lot of risks with that. Definitely discuss with your pastor and do anything like that under the auspices of certified mental health professionals. You do not want to be inadvertently doing any harm or placing anyone in harm’s way.

The devils always in the detail!
A professional therapist or counsellor would also be an essential member I would think.
As Catholic priests rarely have that sort of training you probably wont get much active support from him.
Perhaps ask him if he could scout around for someone who would volunteer their time.

Personally religion can only help so much with mental problems.
Often enough the issues are not really religious at all - its just that the mind latches onto them.

I would start with one thing and then you can build from there if you want. Like, just see about organizing a group of people who would want to stay after Mass for some public prayers.

Number 3 is just weird: a priest comes in to make sure “things are in line with Church teaching”. That’s the bishop’s job.

Remember: the best ideas are the ones that are stolen. Just do what other people are doing that is highly effective.
