An inspirational short story:
I am a 32 year-old-man; highly educated with large working experience with the world’s leading organizations. Before accepting Christ, I used to aim at obtaining the very best of everything; women, cars, jobs, houses, education, friends, clothing…till Christ knocked, or actually opened the door and entered.
Some years ago, before accepting Christ, I was walking around at the building where the Company I worked for was located, and I saw a pretty lady in a wheel chair, looked at her, I smiled and she smiled back. I did not talk to her, but instead, I started to question, or to be more accurate, examine myself. I asked myself; what if love knocks your door through a handicapped lady, would allow yourself to open the door? The answer was quick and spontaneous; of course I would not, I am healthy, successful, educated, and good-looking; I deserve the best of everything. Of course I will only allow myself to love someone who is as healthy as I am.
Years passed, I accepted Jesus, my life changed in so many ways, as the Holy Spirit has taken the wheel and started to steer, and weeks ago, I found myself in the same exact situation; at the train station; spotted a pretty lady in a wheel-chair reading a book, the same question was raised, and the same examen took place: would you allow yourself to open the door if love knocks through a handicapped lady?
I took some minutes to answer, I was analyzing the question and the answer that I will come up with; my answer this time was surprisingly different, and what is more astonishing that the tools and materials that I used for building the answer were totally new and different, I did not have these tools, they were simply not there!
My answer was: what is more beautiful than feeling and seeing that the person you love is depending a lot on you, what is more beautiful than taking care of the person you love with her daily needs, when they cannot totally depend on themselves; what is more beautiful than helping her to get dressed, to shower, to put on her shoes, and tie her sneakers, to help her step out of the wheelchair to go to bed. Doing this so gratefully and pleasantly with a big smile, out of great love, would definitely make Jesus happy!
I was really amazed by my answer, and started to ask myself: where did I get these new tools from? and my answer was: dude, it is the Holy Spirit, He is filling you, and you are drenched in His Gifts and Fruits. Just stay in this state of Holiness and intimacy with God, stay in this state of spiritual sanctity, and let the wheels keep on turnin’, and you will see greater and more pleasant spiritual gifts and fruits, which will pave your way towards Holiness; the purpose of our creation.
It is amazing, how by letting the Holy Spirit enter your life, through the Holy Sacraments, can even change your standards, criteria, and tools of defining good and bad. I am totally a new creation!
“Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
~ Mathew 9:17
