Elizium, I asked for a Church source, not the opinion of Fr. Z, which you seem to feel has pride of place over the Church. I am not going to lose my peace carrying on a discussion while you are fixated on your own belief.

In the final analysis, if the clergy in the Universal Church have been renegade in not preferring Gregorian Chant and Propers, then where is the real Church? Only in faithful worshippers of the TLM? The rest of us are just following an illusory Church? For fifty long years?

Consider me unsubscribed.

Sacrosanctum Concilium, a foundational document of Vatican II, is not Church source enough for you? I’m flabbergasted at your stubborn ignorance. I only included WDTPRS as reinforcement and a critique of the English translation: read it in Latin if you prefer, the wording is abundantly clear.

You thought you could get away with hiding the word “beautiful” among the other terms with which you mean to paint Jason as legalistic.

Yes, the music used at most Masses IS less beautiful than Gregorian chant, and that IS a real concern.
There are quite a few Catholics around who do not find Gregorian chant more beautiful than hymns.

Personal preference doesn’t matter when it comes to Mass music.
