There are many stories out there as to why people leave mormonism. For some reason they choose to write their story. I call such public stories upside down testimonies. I suppose it is a mormon tradition to testify. .Or it could be that ex-Mormons are so jaded but what they see that they’re completely turned off by the idea of God or any religion. Read Steve Benson’s story on why he left Mormonism.
Some mormons when they leave the faith, turn to the UU. One reason for this is the UU theology of religious liberalism which is the exact opposite of Mormonism. Others may become atheists. I have seen their stories on exmormon sites. It is difficult for them to embrace another faith because of the truth claims of the lds church.I have read countless stories of Mormons who have left their faith - and it is at huge cost to themselves when it is their whole family, community, life. Embracing another faith is the easy part for them. It is worth the painful ex-communication and loss of fellowship with loved ones. The latter pain is not lessened by the former, but their new-found faith is so strong they are able to make the leap and pay the price.
So I think you are wrong in your statement here.
I googled a brief story on Benson. Really interesting! It doesn’t seem he has embraced another faith - only most bravely confronted the lies of his own faith. A faith which is his very identity and heritage. What bravery! I admire that. He seems to be a seeker of the truth. I certainly hope he does not associate all faith and religion in what he learned in Mormonism. No evidence is given in the article I read that he now embraces atheism, though. When seeks truth, one will find it, and Benson strikes me as a truth-seeker. So his prognosis is good, IMO.Or it could be that ex-Mormons are so jaded but what they see that they’re completely turned off by the idea of God or any religion. I mainly reply to the posts that post generalizations about mormonism or post in an antimormon rant against the lds church. I don’t believe that it is christian to ridicule another’s faith. So this is what you believe? What you say here, that Mormon claims are true, and you believe their doctrine to be complete? Thats not what a Catholic believes. Yet you have claimed elsewhere on this forum that you go to the Catholic Church, and that you recieve communion. So which is it? Mormon or Catholic? You cannot be both.
Interesting (and sad) information concerning Mormon beliefs. And a very insightful conclusion that this would pave the way for atheism.… Mormons claim God did not create anything – he only organized pre-existing material into his universe. And he came about as the Son of another God back into infinity. So Mormons really do not have a God who is First Cause and responsible for everything. When you reject Mormonism, it is easy to become an atheist when you really don’t believe in an ultimate God anyway.
If you go to the ex-Mormon board:I googled a brief story on Benson. Really interesting! It doesn’t seem he has embraced another faith - only most bravely confronted the lies of his own faith. I never said such a thing.so “why me”, you first claimed to want to become catholic and weren’t mormon.
Not sure but I think you mean Univaersalist Unitarianism? Yes, I see a lot of Catholics in name-only, or Jews-in-name-only, or people who never had any faith grounding join the UU’s. Its a safe place to join, as they don’t demand too much, and their faith blends well with the culture of the day. Its something when you have nothing. Some mormons when they leave the faith, turn to the UU. One reason for this is the UU theology of religious liberalism which is the exact opposite of Mormonism. .
Could be true then. Its just not in my experience to see Mormons leave and not embrace anything. I do feel sorry for them then. But like those of other religions, if you leave a faith something you never embaraced, its not really leaving the faith. If you are levavng the culture, and its your culture, your family, it certainly is hard.Others may become atheists. I have seen their stories on exmormon sites. It is difficult for them to embrace another faith because of the truth claims of the lds church. .
True. Former Catholics who never embraced faith while they were Catholics, and found Jesus in the Pentacostalism, realy have found something whereas before they had “nothing”.Those who do find a new faith may be strong in that faith. But I am sure that it is the same for former Catholics who have embraced Penecostalism or some other faith.
You know, Mormonism, like other cults, have a distinct characteristic of detracting their detractors. They do not tolerate any criticism of their beliefs, and when the beliefs ar criticized, they criticize the criticizor for criticizing. They would rather defame an honest critic than face the honest criticism. They basically “change the subject” from the criticism to the character of the person who dared have a criticism. Thats wrong. Detracting the detractor is not right. They should stand up like real men and defend what they believe.I mainly reply to the posts that post generalizations about mormonism or post in an antimormon rant against the lds church. I don’t believe that it is christian to ridicule another’s faith. .
I’m glad to hear that. I am just troubled that you think the Mormon doctrine makes sense. Do you think Catholic doctrine makes sense? Because the two are opposite. They cannot both be true. One is truth, the other lies. Concerning doctrine, that is. All religons have good and bad people in them. What people here on CA are concerned with is false Mormon Doctrine. When I see Joseph Smith held up as good, I am compelled to speak the truth and say he was not.I do receive communion and why not?..I also confess my sins to a priest. .
And it seems like you are saying that anyone who is willing to speak the truth and say that Mormon doctrines are false, is an “antimormon”. Thats what the Mormons want you to do. Disparage the critics. But thats not right. You will find people here are anti-mormon-doctrine here, but you won’t find people who think that Mormons are bad (just misled). Therefore coming here to do battle against anti-mormon persons is a little like battling windmills. But I will defend the mormons against antimormons…
The Mormon religion, what they call the Church of Jesus Christ, is not that, but a church or religion whose doctrine is full of untruths. False doctrine and untruths enslave, while the truth sets you free. Mormon people are certainly good people. I have never seen that questioned here. But they are also misled, and enslaved by false doctine. We hope that by speaking the truth here, some will be set free.I do not see the mormons as my enemy or a threat. I also don’t see the mormon church as a bad church. Mormons are good people and their religion is unique but not bad.
This is probably the case. Many cradle catholics take their faith for granted or do not know what their faith may stand for. Easy for them to leave but perhaps come back when they learn more about the faith.I do love reading the stories of those who did that and then discovered the richness and fullness of faith in the Catholic Church - they realized they had unknowingly thrown out the baby with the bathwater!
The Mormon heavenly father is the “god” of this planet only. He is not the real God. He didn’t create anything, nor does he have the power to do so.Not true. As I have said, mormons pray to one father in the name of Jesus Chrsit. He is the Father and he answers prayers. And he is the only one that the lds are concerned with.
No he hasn’t created anything. He has merely plagiarized like Joseph Smith did, reworking existing works and passing them off as his own. Funny, isn’t it, how the god that Smith created was a mirror of himself - a promiscuous liar who plagiarized his “works” from others.By organizing existing material, He has created something out of that existing material.
Ah well, I am not the spiritual giant that you are zerinus. I work at it, one day at a time. If you feel that I haven’t got it right, perhaps you can take it up with God.How is the resurrection of Jesus Christ “reasonable”? How many people have you seen getting up from their graves and walking about (spooky movies not included)? How is His walking on the water “reasonable”? How is Moses’ plagues in Egypt, his dividing the Red Sea, and the raining down of manna from heaven “reasonable”? When was the last time you saw someone accomplishing such a task? How is Elijah’s calling down fire from heaven to destroy the captain of fifty with his fifty “reasonable”? Do you honestly believe that these things happened? On the basis of what “reason”? My own guess it that you probably don’t. You are just pretending to.

If you figure out anything else about me, let me know.I think that it takes a lot of faith without reason to believe such things even for our friend Rebecca.![]()
Mormons have heard criticisms of their beliefs since the founding of the lds faith. Usually, it has been the people criticizing the faith that have not been tolerant. Also, calling Mormonism a cult is not exactly a friendly statement. You know, Mormonism, like other cults, have a distinct characteristic of detracting their detractors. They do not tolerate any criticism of their beliefs, and when the beliefs ar criticized, they criticize the criticizor for criticizing.
So also says a baptist about the catholic faith. Or any protestant that may post on this forum can say the same about the catholic faith. Likewise for catholics who speak about Protestantism. The Mormon religion, what they call the Church of Jesus Christ, is not that, but a church or religion whose doctrine is full of untruths. False doctrine and untruths enslave, while the truth sets you free. Mormon people are certainly good people. I have never seen that questioned here. And yet I paraphrased Paul about being learned and wise and how such traits can lead one out of faith. Reasoning has much to do with being too learned and too wise about religion and god. It is very easy to reason oneself away from god.If you figure out anything else about me, let me know.
