An outrage or not?

Last Sunday, at the end of mass before the final blessing, our parish administrator allowed representatives of a local bank to get up and give a speil about how they will give the parish money back if we open an account at their financial institution. I could not believe what I was hearing. A commercial from the ambo…not stewardship…a commercial for a local bank. From the unbelievable stares from the people around me, I could tell they were as flabbergasted as I was. When I approached the administrator, he flipped it off as perfectly acceptable. Am I allowed to be outraged about this at this seeming liturgical abuse from the pulpit, where we had just heard Jesus admonish us for not practicing what we preach?

I would be really upset if this happened. Write to the Bishop. I know we had a visiting missonary priest that said Mass, changing all the words to be inclusive for women and others…he was originally from Boston, go figure……anywho, he then wanted us to give to his organization, after his blatant disregard of saying a proper Mass. It goes to show that so many people are after money, even clergy, sad to say.

But Bishop Wurel will be getting a letter from me…I love Pittsburgh!

I can’t believe that the bankers actually made the presentation during mass, those folks did not exercise good judgment IMO. Just seems so tacky. Glad I didn’t see it.

I guess the next step is for parishes to sell naming rights?

I can’t believe the bankers did either,…and they did this bilingually since we also celebrate a Polish mass. I am still upset and it’s been 2 days.
