I have a friend who doesn’t believe that God saves those who know about Him and join the Church and those who don’t know about God. He also doesn’t believe that the Pope, Bishops, and Priest are infallible uppon Church teachings. Can someone help me and also can someone give me passages from the bible that proves both these things.

God Bless and Marry Christmas,
Everett

WOW!! You just ordered a market full of food on a saucer. Your friend seems to be one of those hard core fundamentalist Christians that sticks to putting God in a box and not allowing Him to be God. Many will contribute here, I’m sure, but for starters ask your friend where he got this bible that all things must be proved out of. Where in the Bible does it say that all things must be in the Bible? Ask him where in the Old Testament does it say which 27 books belonged in the New Testament??

With these kind of self righteous Christians who are so free to condemn the world you must make them see that in elevating their sense of judgement they decrease the infinite qualities of God. God is not bound by His commands to us. Anyone can be saved. True, we are all saved through the merits of Christ’s death on the Cross but how we are judged is left up to God, not us.

Stick with the only thing that they use, the Bible. Insist that he tells you where they understand that it is inspired. Because the bible itself says so?? So does the Book of Mormon. We, as Catholics, know that the Bible is the inspired Word of God because the same Church who was inspired to write Sacred Scripture is the same Church trusted to maintain and interpret it through the guidance of the same Holy Spirit who guided the sacred authors.

Most fundamentalist Christians don’t have much information on the origin of the New Testament. They just know that it is there for them bound and ready for sale at Barnes and Noble. And they know one other thing. Whatever the Catholic has to say is absolutely wrong especially if it is not in the Bible. Oops, the word Bible is not in the bible…maybe you could start there…God Bless…teachccd 🙂

Thank you very much I think I’ll ask him now that he’s on.

I would also recommend reading up on the Church’s doctrine of infallibility…it does not extend to the bishops individually – only insofar as they and the Pope comprise the Magisterium – and never extends to priests.

Furthermore, the Biblical support for the Church’s authority (“You are Peter, and on this rock…” for example) is such that a hardcore fundamentalist may be well equipped with rebuttals.

Peace,
Dante

Is your friend suggesting that knowledge of God is not enough? If so, he is correct. For further understanding on that issue, please click here staycatholic.com/knowledge_is_not_enough.htm

Or is the issue that he denies that those who don’t know God can be saved? If that is the case, refer him to Luke 12:48, and perhaps more significantly to Romans 2:12-16(mentioned in the following essay). For futher information on that issue, please click here

As for the infallibility of the Pope, please see this essay

I hope that helps.

:rotfl:
No doubt.

It may be best to take it a wee bit at a time with your un-understanding friend. Some people take decades to come to the understanding of the RCC. Yours truly included. 😃

Thanks everyone I’ll put these things to use. I have a tactic that the father of a friend of mine told me to use. Break the foundation of what he believes in and then save him from dispare by building him up the right way. He told me to ask him where in the bible does it say the bible that everything is in the bible.

God Bless and Marry Christmas,
Everett

Also remember it took about 400 years after the foundation of the Church to put the Bible together. The Early Christians depended only on the Church for the truth. 1 Timothy Chapter 3:15 the church is the foundation and pillar of all truth.
