We really need a separate slavery thread!

How to treat people openly living the gay lifestyle? Again, just like an alcoholic, you can’t FORCE somebody to admit its a problem. Only they can.

What about this:

Make sure the person first perceives you as a decent human being. THEN have a serious talk ONE time about what you believe about how harmful that kind of living is and that you’d be there for him if he ever wants help changing his life. Then drop it until/unless he hits that rock bottom and comes to you for the help you once offered.

I’m not sure the drug/alcohol style intervention strategy would work here since the person has PLENTY of places to go to be told that what he is doing is fine. The alcoholic has no such option.

To those who brought up the issue of slavery:

The Church has always opposed racial slavery. .

fix:
the Church has never reversed Herself.
:

“…the 1866 statement allowed Catholics in a particular situation in Africa to have slaves under certain conditions.”

Well which is it? Slavery was always opposed or the Church allowed racial slavery in Africa under certain conditions? And today the Church has reversed her teaching and does not allow slavery under any conditions or it still allows the enslavement of the black African under certain conditions??

The complete answer to your posting of the 1866 statement by the Pope was posted on the thread. The Church did not reverse itself. Read the post, go to the link…educate yourself before you make an accusation. It is often difficult, when looking back on an issue, to view it in its entirety and very easy to take out ONE OR TWO PARAGRAPHS and decide that the Catholic Church taught one thing and then reversed itself. SO, read it all and then start a separate thread. DO NOT HIJACK THIS ONE. IT is rude and against forum rules.

First they accuse me of owning slaves. Then when I protest on it, they accuse me of hijacking a thread, and being rude. Further they make ridiculous remarks and expect me to be silent and say nothing, while they fell free to say whatever they want. I did not bring up the issue of slavery in the first place. My personal opinion is that this is not being fair at all.

1866 AD

The Holy Office in an instruction signed by Pope Pius IX

declares: "Slavery itself, considered as such in its essential nature,

is not at all contary to the natural and divine law, and there can

be several just titles of slavery, and these are referred to by

approved theologians and commentators of the sacred canons …

It is not contrary to the natural and divine law for a slave to be

sold, bought, exchanged or given".
There are many types of slavery, Not all are wrong.

stanley, you didn’t start it. You got goaded into it.

But please move the slavery talk to a thread where it is a prime topic.

All you guys are stealing my thread!
