Is the episode of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-11 evidence that Jesus had given the Apostles the power to forgive or retain sins? John 20:23.
 
I am not making that connection. This passage tells us that Peter knew of the deception of Ananias and Sapphira, and that he exposed it and called it a sin. However, it does not say that Peter retained their sins or passed a final judgement against them. Did Ananias and Sapphira repent at the moment of death? Did Peter recognize their contrition and absolve them? Could be.
 
I definitely make that connection. Peter gave both a chance to repent of their lie. Both refused. Compare with Jesus and Judas - our Lord gave him chances to repent of his betrayal, both at the supper and in the garden.
