There is, in fact, still debate as to wether the flood of Noah was global or local. Young earth creationists and Gap creationists argue that it was global. Day age creationists and Progressive creationists and Theistic evolutionists argue it was local. I’m personally not so sure about the issue.Perhaps they weren’t the exact same people. In the Hebrew OT, the English transliteration is “the ones distinguished.” Distinguished for what? You would have to read the chapter to see what they are distinguished for. The “distinguished ones” in Genesis were so horrible that God had to destroy the whole world to get rid of them. That’s pretty bad. He never destroyed the world again, so I conclude the ‘distinguished ones’ of Numbers are not exactly the same ‘distinguished ones’ of Genesis. Even the two words in Hebrew are a little different. That’s my :twocents:
“(THIS,) dear friends, is now my second letter to you. In both I have been recalling to you what you already know, to rouse you to honest thought. Remember the predictions made by God’s own prophets, and the commandment given by the Lord and Saviour through your apostles. First of all, note this: in the last days there will come scoffers who live self-indulgent lives; they will mock you and say: “What has happened to his promised coming? Our fathers have been laid to rest, but still everything goes on exactly as it always has done since the world began.” In maintaining this they forget that there were heavens and earth long ago, created by God’s word out of water and with water; and that the first world was destroyed by water, the water of the flood. By God’s word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for burning; they are being kept until the day of judgement when the godless will be destroyed. Here is something, dear friends, which you must not forget: in the Lord’s sight one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day. It is not that the Lord is slow in keeping his promise, as some suppose, but that he is patient with you. It is not his will that any should be lost, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. On that day the heavens will disappear with a great rushing sound, the elements will be dissolved in flames, and the earth with all that is in it will be brought to judgement.” (2 Peter 3:1-10)
Young earth creationists argue that the first world was the world before the flood of Noah
Gap creationists argue that the first world was the world between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2
Day age creationists as well as Progressive creationists and Theistic evolutionists argue the the first world refers to a time when the human population was concentrated in the middle east, hence only a local flood was necessary to wipe out the human race. They reject the out of Africa theory
So regardless I’m pretty sure that all Christians (Please let me know if I am mistaken) believe that there were only 8 human survivors of the flood of Noah. THIS is the MAIN PROBLEM with the ancient astronaut hypothesis: Why are we here?
I think I am going to have to agree with you: The Nephilim are extinct from the flood and they are not us. But then this begs the question: who were they? If they were hybrids between fallen angels and humans, then where are the fossils?
Someone else suggested that they were descendants from the line of Cain. If this is the case, then why did God flood them all out especially since he never forbade powerful human males or descendants of Seth to marry ordinary human females or descendants of Cain? It really seems as though such a crime would not be perverse enough for God to wipe out the human race.
