I recently discovered Ancient Faith Radio: “We offer two 24 hour internet based Orthodox radio stations but we also provide an extensive list of downloadable Orthodox Podcasts…with on line audio programming of music, prayers, readings, lectures and interviews.”

The two options are Ancient Faith Music, and Ancient Faith Talk. I’ve heard some great programs in both. ancientfaith.com/ Now broadcasting: ancientfaith.com/playing/

(In doing a search here I didn’t find mention of this website before. Excuse the duplication if it’s already been brought up.)

The reason you haven’t seen these sites posted here is because they are for one of the Eastern Orthodox Churches…You are posting on a Catholic forum, and your bio says you are Catholic. In case you didn’t know, there is a difference between the Eastern Rites of the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches…the latter are not in communion with the Pope, and therefor not in communion with the Catholic Church.

Ancient Faith Radio has several podcasts available on iTunes, generally they are interesting to listen to and you can get some good stuff from them, however they tend to either misrepresent or misunderstand the Catholic church’s teachings on certain subjects. This either weakens or in some cases will completely negate the point they are trying to prove.

If you want an Eastern perspective that is solidly Cathoic, check out the “Light of the East” podcast on iTunes. It is produced by a Byzantine Catholic parish in Illinois and it is really good. I think you would enjoy it and could learn a lot from it and not have to worry about any different teachings.

Very true, whomever is doing the misrepresenting and misunderstanding.

If you mean Father Thomas Loya’s program, it is a great program. I’ve been listening to it for years. We are fortunate that our local Catholic Radio station carries it Sunday mornings, and the archives are here for anyone who is interested: byzantinecatholic.com/feed.xml He also does a lot of Theology of the Body work, including A Body of Truth catholicradiointernational.com/abodyoftruth.php I just mentioned that program on another thread here last night 🙂 I’ve borrowed several of his TOB DVDs from my Diocese and found them really useful.

I was delighted to meet Father Tom, and Father Maximos a frequent guest on his show, at the Orientale Lumen XII Conference last year.

Yes, that’s exactly who I was thinking of. His show is great and I’m glad I can get them as podcasts. I’m also definitely going to check out the other show you linked to. Thank you very much. 👍

You’re very welcome. I wish there were more opportunities to regularly hear and see Eastern Catholic programming. I’m frequently telling EWTN radio and TV that. Anytime they offer a program featuring the East I make a point of sending off a “Thank you, more please.”

Off topic… You may know from Fr. Tom’s LOE program that he also trained as a professional artist. So he brings that vision of an artist to his TOB work, in addition to his Eastern background, making for some very interesting and distinct teaching. This is present in the July 21, 2008 Body of Truth audio program. The DVDs are very inclusive of his artist’s perspective, a trained artist who comes as a Byzantine Catholic, deep in that sacramental-liturgical world view being the son, nephew etc. of Byzantine priests in addition to his own priesthood.

See also Tabor Life Institute for more of his TOB work. taborlife.org/ (I’m sure all the sacred icon art on the mast head on those pages is Fr. Tom’s from his church. Have you looked at the photos of him painting the icons in his church? byzantinecatholic.com/photos/PhotoAlbum3/index.html )

You don’t even have to listen to the podcasts. The streaming music alone makes it worth it 👍
