I was a little skeptical at some of the claims he made about the “real translation” of Hebrew words, and then when he comes out and admits he’s not actually a Biblical or linguistic scholar with any credentials “apart from thousands of hours of personal study” that set off further alarm bells. A glance at his signature work, his Lexicon of Ancient Hebrew, over on Amazon and the reviews therein more or less showed me that this guy’s work, while done with a fair amount of enthusiasm which cannot be denied, is not scholarly in the least. Several published scholars have commented on his books and how they are short-sighted and based on methods which are a major departure from actual legitimate linguistic theory. I’d say read him with a grain of salt.

Yes, knowledge of the meaning of words is insufficient; how they are used in the historic and cultural setting [in context] is also crucial to scholarly interpretation.
