Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today in the USA we celebrate “Thanksgiving Day” and there are special Readings for Mass which may be offered. The First Reading is an especially beautiful one from the Book of Sirach:

who has done wondrous things on earth;
Who fosters people’s growth from their mother’s womb,
and fashions them according to his will!
May he grant you joy of heart
and may peace abide among you;
May his goodness toward us endure in Israel

Wherever you may be, may we all give thanks to God for all His Goodness toward us. May He grant us all joy of heart and peace. Let us pray for one another, for our countries and our world, which God created.

Mary, Mother of the Church, Queen of heaven and earth, intercede for us, that we honor God as you did.
Jesus, we trust in You!
Come, Holy Spirit, renew the face of the earth.

Prayer of Gratitude

Thank you, Father, for having created us and given us to each other in the human family. Thank you for being with us in all our joys and sorrows, for your comfort in our sadness, your companionship in our loneliness. Thank you for yesterday, today, tomorrow and for the whole of our lives. Thank you for friends, for health and for grace. May we live this and every day conscious of all that has been given to us.

Dear tawny, wild thing and pollylodges,

Thanks so much for praying in thankfulness to God, today. How often He is neglected in our world and goes unnoticed and unthanked, when He has given us everything we have.

I’m reminded of something I read in a biography of St. Francis of Assisi - that he would go through the streets crying out, “Love is not loved!”

May we offer God all our love and thanks everyday!

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it is fun to see “thankful words” in another language translated into English!

I followed the link and it asked if I meant “Dia” instead of “Dhia” so I copied their version and it translated Irish to English:
Lord Thy all have done for me. What I am doing for Thee? Except for our thanks, it would hardly occur to us, to offer sacrifice to God.

Perhaps that first sentence may be better translated as: “Lord, Thou has done all for me.”

My Mom taught me to pray the Sign of the Cross in Irish but I do not know how to write it, and can barely remember some of the Irish words. It would not be an “easy” language to learn — good thing God knows the language of our hearts! Hope it was a blessed Thanksgiving Day for you and yours. Ours was truly a blessed one. Good to hear from you again. It seems a long time. 🙂

Dear ChibiViolet and pollylodges and all those who pray in thanksgiving,

By God’s grace may we all continue to give Him thanks daily, by remaining in His Love. Blessings as we begin the Advent season tomorrow at Sunday Mass or tonight’s Vigil 🙂
