Think about it this way. If Jesus isn’t still human anymore, then that means He didn’t have an eternal soul (unless you believe in some form of annihilationism). If He didn’t have an eternal soul, then He couldn’t have been fully human - since an eternal soul is part of the human nature. At best, He would have been only partially human, in that case. If He wasn’t fully human then He couldn’t have atoned for our sins nor effected Redemption on the Cross. And if that is the case, why be Christian at all - since you would not have salvation in the first place (no redeeming sacrifice = no salvation).

Do you now see why you must believe this?

I see your point. I was looking at more from a mystical angle and going with the understanding that “all things are possible with God”. I know that doesn’t anchor it to anything solid and does sound wishy washy. That’s why I just said that it’s a theory I was having. It’s not grounded in any truth except possibility.

Think of the creeds…fully God and fully Man. The creeds speak of Jesus in the present tense; he is fully God and fully Man today, as he sits at the right hand of the God the father, just as he was every minute since his incarnation 2,000 some years ago (before then he was fully God, but had not yet taken on his human nature). Remember also that the Scriptures show us how after the resurrection Jesus very purposely ate fish on the beach with his disciples. I say purposely because He wanted to demonstrate that he was real and was not simply spirit. He then ascended into heaven bodily. Sure, his human body is a transfigured body now…most folks can’t simply appear in a locked room without going through the door…but it’s still human. In some sense, Jesus is mankind’s representative, and certainly its advocate, in heaven. One of US…A HUMAN BEING…is in heaven and sitting at the right hand of the Father! Amazing. Thanks be to God.

I like that and I can definitely see how that is the case. Like I said, my theory was more speculative instead of what’s been said before. Trying to think “outside of the box” and I guess I wasn’t very good at relaying that. My apologies!

I think simple childlike Faith is sufficient for salvation. I think many of the first lay Christians knew very little of what we are expected to know and profess, yet that would not make them more likely to lose salvation.

The problem is, we are a curious bunch and have all of these other ideas our imagination will use to fill up all the voids. We all do it, so we have to be careful.

If we don’t know, we just don’t know, but if we start to speculate about these things it is necessary to study the church authorities.

The church is like a big school then. We cannot challenge our college instructors in science, math, literature etc. They teach and we take the tests. Religion is much the same, it’s not something we can be expected to know by osmosis and we cannot imagine our way to truth.

So simple Faith is OK, but beyond that it’s a puzzle. Confusion is not the same as doubt, it just requires more study. When we are ready to know more we have to be careful of our sources.

Well, I was wrong on this point. Do you think posts like these are brought up during the canonization process? I’d hate to have this count against me.
