Feast Days
Can. 1246 §1. Sunday, on which by apostolic tradition the paschal mystery is celebrated, must be observed in the universal Church as the primordial holy day of obligation. The following days must also be observed: the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Epiphany, the Ascension, the Body and Blood of Christ, Holy Mary the Mother of God, her Immaculate Conception, her Assumption, Saint Joseph, Saint Peter and Saint Paul the Apostles, and All Saints.
§2. With the prior approval of the Apostolic See, however, the conference of bishops can suppress some of the holy days of obligation or transfer them to a Sunday.

Canon Law

My 1950 missal does not list it as a separate feast, but incorporates it in the Feast of the Epiphany, which wasn’t a Holy Day of Obligation in the U.S. as I recall.

I’m familiar with the work of most of these people, but don’t know their faces.
Could you please identify the various soloist in order of appearance?

I’m pretty sure Andrae’s “Soon and Very Soon” was one of the first “black gospel” songs that I learned. I’m white, but I grew up in predominantly black Detroit, and I remember my mom playing the song when I was young.

Fast forward to the present, and “Soon and Very Soon” has become, it seems, a standard closing hymn for my Catholic parish on Christ the King Sunday. Thematically, it definitely fits, though some traditionalists may cringe… :😃

It’s OK, some folks cringe at everything. :coffeeread:

One of my favorites is “Through It All”. Beautiful lyrics and beautiful melodies.
 
Andrae’s music was very popular around the time of my biggest spiritual awakening, so I have very fond memories of him and his music. Thanks for sharing this. Andrae and his music touched a lot of people’s lives for the glory of God.

Sure, the three songs mentioned here were his “best of”, but I would add, “Take a Little Time”, “I’m Coming Home Dear Lord” and “I Don’t Know Why Jesus Loved Me.”

@pianistclare, For some reason there’s no clear citation anywhere I can find on who did what in what order on the video. Keep in mind this was done back in 1996 – almost 20 years ago. Piecing together several sources, I *THINK * that the people are thus:

The first couple – BeBe Winans and Kim Rutherford
First soloist – Tramaine Hawkins (this is the one I’m not sure of, because I can only find recent photos of her, not 20 year old ones)
Second soloist – Patti Austin
Third soloist – Generic mullet-headed white guy (i.e., not a clue who he is, except he must have been big in the gospel scene in 1996.)

I’ll keep digging. Hope this helps.
