I have read alot about Angels and found that unlike us Angels are not eligible for salvation, when they become fallen it’s permanent and they can never go back to what they once were.

It got me thinking, Angels can also be tempted to go ‘dark side’ which would also cause atleast a small amount of fear in them, that if they become fallen they can never see their brothers and sister again?

The reason why I’m asking this is because I’m currently writing a screenplay about guardian angels and wanted as much as the Catholic truth in it as possible. 🙂

Well, if you want your screenplay to be as close to the Catholic truth as possible, you will need to know some things…

Angels to start with are spirits of light, so unlike us they are not of a body and a soul, and they have no gender. I tell you this because you said “…] see their brothers and sister …]” assuming that there are male and female Angels, but there are not. Also, Angels don’t really call each other “brother” as they actually have no parents (They are creations of God, but even if they are of a superior nature than man, they are not his sons, unlike us).

Answering to your question: You may want to look up how the Catholic Church teaches the fall of Lucifer, who once was the most beautiful Angel but became the prince of darkness. God created every angel in existence at the very beginning of time, before he created anything else, and hasn’t created any other Angel since then, so right at the beginning God revealed to all the Angels that one day his Son would become flesh and that all of them should worship Him. Lucifer, the most beautiful Angel, the highest of all didn’t accept the Will of God, and as he was free to choice, he chose to “not serve” because he was not willing to worship a being of a lower nature than him (how could the most beautiful being of light worship a being of clay?), so he fell, together with many other Angels who decided to not serve as well, and they are known as the devil and the demons. Every Angel made their definitive decision to serve or not serve at the very beginning and since then no Angel, fallen or not, had change their mind.

Since Angels are spirits, they habit out of time and space. They actually can’t fall nor be tempted into the dark side as their decision was definitive and their love for God is not unstable as our fragile nature which habits in time and is exposed to mutation. That also is why fallen angels can’t be redeemed, and the same reason why hell is eternal (if you live out of time, you become unable to change your mind upon deciding to go to hell by your own free will).

The Catholic understanding is that angels have made their choice, and it is permanent. Those who rejected God are permanently fallen; those who accepted God are permanently faithful (could not choose at some subsequent point to be unfaithful). Their fidelity to God is total.

As to “how” this permanent state in the good angels is instilled and maintained, we do not know - anymore than we know “how” it becomes the state of humans who are in heaven. I would think it is the complete union with God which would be so wonderfully consuming that nothing could even be capable of tempting one to consider rejecting it. Anything contrary to God’s will would only be repulsive, never tempting.

This is not correct.

The angels made their choice. Their will is fixed, and the angels have been admitted to the beatific vision.

No, they cannot be tempted and no they would not have fear.

Thanks for all you’re information 🙂

Really need to find a way to have an angel have a weakness (hoping there is one) because I don’t want a ‘perfect’ angel.

And I think God didn’t create angels as perfect beings, did he?

Thanks alot its really helping my character development 🙂

There are no weaknesses in the angels in Heaven.
You are looking to find something that does not exist.

Well, yeah, God is the only perfect Being, but Angels are the created beings of highest nature and the ones in heaven don’t really have any weaknesses. Even the smallest of all Angels in heaven is times infinite stronger than the prince of darkness himself.

However if you need to give your Angel a weakness you can work on this: It’s about Guardian Angels, right? Well, maybe their weakness is the human will. If that person by his own free will succumbs to the devil’s temptation, that person is practically saying to his Angel “I don’t want your protection as I want to sin”, so it’s no use fighting the demons as they already won.

Hope that helps.

Good luck to you as you write your screenplay and God Bless you for wanting to keep it consistent with the teaching of the church.

I am writing a book that has to do with the Mysteries of the Rosary and Angels.
You can find it at scribd.com/amarp_49.

I have also made a facebook page for it
facebook.com/#!/ReginaMarieAndTheMysteriesOfHeaven

All posters please read as much as you can and let me know if you see anything that contradicts any Church teaching. I feel like the Lord has strongly called me to this endeavor and I would be mortified if I am spreading error.

I feel like this could be a Catholic “Harry Potter” in the sense that many children would read it and come to appreciate their faith.

OP, I would love to correspond with you. I will send you a PM.

That’s a pretty good idea actually, helps a whole lot. Their own guard is their weakness in ‘breaking an angel’s spirit’ just need to warp it abit more.

I hope I’m not putting angels in a bad position but hey every story has rain before a rainbow 🙂 Now I got a problem for the story

Thanks alot 🙂

God has never created anything that was not perfect. The perfect later failed, and some would say that this made them imperfect in the first place. I disagree with this assumption. God bless:thumbsup:👍👍

I’ve read that angels have a perfect intellect. (maybe not perfect perfect, but perfect enough for practical conversation. 🙂 ), so when they make a choice, they have full knowledge. They cannot be tempted, because they’ve all already made their choice. They are outside of time, so its hard to understand, but they’ve chosen already and that’s it!

Stop trying to find something that isn’t there.
Angels do NOT have any weaknesses.
