hi all

this may seem a bit strange but i have heard of michael being referred to as ‘saint michael the archangel’. i didnt think it was possible for angels to become saints as they arent human and havent lived as humans or died. so im rather confused!

The Church has not always had the formal process of canonization it has today, and the term “saint” was applied more widely than it is today. The early Church honored certain angels by referring to them as “saint,” and we have maintained this early tradition, even though it’s not really proper in the context of the current usage of the word.

Every being in heaven is a saint. The Latin word for saint is sanctus, which means “holy.”
