Angels aren't alive?

I was on a different thread (I did not want to hijack it with this issue) and the question came up if Angels are alive…

I have always been under the impression that they surely are living…

Please let me know if I am in error
 
I suppose we need to ask what it means to be alive. Angels are non-corporeal, so does being alive apply to beings without bodies?

I know Angels are pure spirits… But if we don’t classify their state as alive what state of being are they in?

I honestly don’t know but am very interested… I have always just assumed that they are living beings without giving it much thought until know.

I thought that if we made it to Heaven we would have everlasting life with the Angels and Saints(Along with the God of course)… This statement would assume that they have everlasting life as well.

Also after we die on this Earth aren’t we non-corporeal until the Resurrection? But we will still be alive in one of three places. Is that correct? Or am I wrong on that point?

I don’t know, I’m just speculating based on your initial question. When we die, it means our body and our soul are separated. Thus when we live it means our body and our soul are united. But angels do not have both bodies and souls, so I can imagine an argument that says that angels are not alive, just as they cannot die. As I said, it all depends on the meaning of alive, to live, as applied to non-corporeal beings.

I really don’t know either… I would like to think of them as alive but you make a good point maybe you can only be “alive” if that means you can die.

I wonder what state we should consider Angels in?
 
I guess what you would say is that they are spiritually alive, creating a new line of what it means to be alive. The same would apply to anyone following the will of God. So, if a general sense, you could say they are alive, but only spiritually.
 
This is how the catechism describes Angels:
330 As purely spiritual creatures angels have intelligence and will: they are personal and immortal creatures, surpassing in perfection all visible creatures, as the splendour of their glory bears witness.[190]

I believe Immortal means to never die… Which one could say means to always live.

Thanks for the link as well! On the thread I was on earlier people were stating that Angels are not alive… I did not want to hijack the thread so I started this one which pretty much sums up what my beliefs were. Thanks for the (name removed by moderator)ut everyone.
 
They are definitely very much alive…more than most of us, I’d wager! 😃

But their state of living is very different than ours. They will never face death, illness, pain or sadness, because they do not have a body like ours. They are part of the Heavenly Host. I’ve heard wherever there’s Perpetual Adoration, you can bet there would be angels in the chapel. Some of them are warriors, some are healers, others are messengers, but all of them want to win souls for God.

So I was trying to understand what state of being Spirits are in.

I personally consider them alive.
 
I’ve never really thought about it…

I guess I would say that that they’re alive.
 
Angels are definitely alive. I don’t see how someone can think they are not. Think of what it means to NOT be alive. Angels are not inanimate objects, they move, think, feel, and have their being. To not be alive is to be an inanimate object like a rock. I’m totally baffled as to how someone can even question their aliveness. 🤷:confused:

Even after we die, we are still alive, the body is what dies, not the person.

If being able to die defines being alive then what does that make God??:confused:

This is the point I have been trying to make… I have bent over backwards trying to understand the other side of the argument… Before I heard this I have never thought of the Angels (especially my guardian) not being alive with us!

The whole point of my op was to try to figure out how angels are not alive but have not heard a good argument otherwise… I am going to carry on with my beliefs that they are truly alive (and as another poster put it, more alive than us!)
